This may have been pointed out already, but I noticed in the new Dark Millenium bit of 7th that Squats are listed as one of the 15 abhuman types still active.

Huzzah, they can play with the cat-people in the upcoming (probably) Abhuman codex of fun!

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

This has been noted since 6e.

Maybe they'll do something with it, but I won't hold my breath.

1d4chan is working on rules for them if you want to play them.

You could merge the two of them for short, fat, hairy catgirls for a whole new level of heresy

Counts-as can do amazing things if you don't want a fandex.

I've been trying to figure out what codex would do Exodites best, but Squats would probably do IG, I think (vets and mech)?

Nah, the canon mermen/deep ones are way cooler. Plus they're even accepted by the Imperium and not harassed like other mutants.

There is a very cool thread wtih Squats as Marines:

Deep Ones in 40K would be ace.

not really looking for short fat hairy catgirls tbh

Catgirls were already in W40K. As were fish-people.

I saw them in the 6th ed rulebook - where they anywhere else?

Squats were already mentioned in the fluff in the 6th edition. But I think Cat-people kick their arse abhumans-wise.

Squats were technically never completely dead in the fluff, although they haven't been mentioned in forever and even been editted out of some novels. There are archived forum posts on the web by Jes Goodwin himself discussing how you could field a count-as Squat army with the narrative being that they're basically remnants. Their homeworlds were eaten, but there were still a few off-world at the time, be it as their own army or serving in the guard, and some might have simply lived on human planets instead of the home planets.

Admittingly, that was mostly just a narrative throwing the squat fan a bone excuse, given that they were never mentioned again until 6th Ed, but whatever.

When it comes to GW, it's best to assume that just because something hasn't been mentioned in forever, it's not necessarily dead unless explicitly stated so (which the squats technically weren't, unlike those Tyrannid centaur guys. Even then GW could always BS something to bring them back). Good examples of this are the Legio Cybernetica (robots), Knights, and Pariahs (show up in a BW novel after 5th ed cron codex came out).

I'm stealing this image as my Avatar.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Come to think of it a "Codex : Mutants/Abhumans" would be pretty killer. I've been secretly wanting to see Space Dwarves/Squats. I'm K-OS through and through, and while I did well with Spess Mahrins in DOW, I don't want them or any variant in the table top.

Imperium mutants though? :O Since I saw the models for Squat Snipers, I was half tempted to put together an IG "Rejekz Regiment" filled with Squat Snipers, Ogryn Shock Troops, etc. etc. Could be fun. Probably be funnier than anything.

Your artistic skills are great indeed, my friend.
Your taste is a different matter however. Catgirls, tsk.
Everyone knows dwarf women are so much hotter. Especially space dwarf women, with hair on their chin you can hold on to while you... well, you know what I mean, l should keep this suitable for those 13 or under

They were listed in 6th Ed, so I took that as permission to put them in my IG army. I used Catachan bodies and Beastman bits (heads, mostly... the odd arm or two) to model them up and ran them as "counts as" Penal Squads.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)
