Whether it be from any of FFG's sources, or one of the species encountered by humanity during the Great Cruade, what's your favorite obscure 40k race?
Mine is the Rak'Gul.

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

Can I vote for Warp Spiders (the entities, not the Aspect)?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Surely they must be locked in a drawer somewhere at GW HQ waiting to be released as an army.

No, Rak'Gul are the guys all as tough and strong as marines (way stronger than orks) who somehow are able to use crude cybernetics to absurdly good effect, despite that it should be killing them.

Cannot remember their name at all... But I'm quite interested by those aliens that are made up of lots of worms, and are slowly infiltrating Imperial space. They're pretty unsettling.

No, it's not the Hrud. The ones I'm thinking of were from a FFG game, I think.

Also, the Hrud are not made out of worms.

Those aren't obscure so much as canned due to stupidity.

part of why I could never use them in Rogue trader game if I ever ran one. they'd NEVER take the race seriously

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Yeah, they are pretty cool. You could even represent a subverted PDF regiment by running IG as the PDF and then allying in some melee-oriented Marines (with appropriate modelling) to represent the Slaugh.

I really want to know more about the Barghesi.

The Imperium is scared enough of them to devote multiple entire chapters to make sure they never get out despite them being presumably on the small side empire wise, and they think that letting the Tyranids have their genes would be the worst thing since sliced Horus.

And that's it.

Not even so much as a description of what they look like.

I really want to know what's their story.

That would be the Slaugth whom indeed is a rather unsetteling race. If you want more information I strongly suggest reading the Dark Heresy books, there you get lots of information about the Slaugth themselvs and their human servants

Slaugth, as Trondheim said.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Slaugth#.U4xzV_l_vTo

In Forgeworld Horus Heresy III - Extermination, we learn that one possible childhood for Primarch Alpharius was something like this:
Spoiler:
Abducted by the Slaugth, used for experimentation and toyed with for a while, then used as a weapon against humanity

As for me... I like a lot of them. Zoats and Q´Orl are perhaps my favs, but also Stryxis, Umbra, Fra´al, Slaugth, Slann, Thyrrus and two abhuman species: Hullghast and the not-official Skaven (no, I do not mean the Hrud).

Indeed, what makes them hyper violent?

I think I enjoy the lesser known races more than the some of the major ones because we do know so little.

Do Enslavers still exist? I think their infestation was an infinitely better reason for the Necron's entombment than the Newcron fluff.

I love when the smaller alien races are mentioned, they remind us that the galaxy is far larger than the IoM, and a lot of small things hide between the cracks of larger factions.

Also when a smaller race faces a mayor one, it is usually a curious story, as they usually deploy weird and unseen technologies. Sometimes they manage to carve a small empire only to attract the attention of far darker things.
A good example is the now extinct Ulumeathic League.

Megarachnids. They got their home planet named Murder, so they must be doing something right. And the Lacrymole, shape shifting vampires so damn scary that you have to kill them as soon as you see them? Awesome.
