Infantry or the rifle corps? I just have the starter set (2 player so i have the shock troops) as of now and looking for some expansion what should come first? I was looking at the winterguard but which is better? I was thinking of sticking with Scorcha1 for a bit.

Winter Guard Infantry are a staple of the faction. If you get them, their attachment and Kovnik Grigorovich (aka Kovnik Joe) you should get lots of good use out of them. I'm not sure if either of those units are the best fit for Sorscha1, but they are a great unit that can go well with a lot of casters and their huge number of attacks could go well with what you already have.

WGRC can shoot from afar but they're pow 10. WGI can shoot from med range but slightly higher pow. But more imptly, they can CRA AND spray as well, which helps to deal with pesky stealth units

I have seen RC with joe take out hi def low arm infantry. Put the spell from Vlad1 that adds an extra die and remove the lowest

Neither is better, both are extremely useful.

The deathstar - infantry, 3xrockets, and officer/standard is a staple. It's a toolbox. Slap on if and with bob and weave they're a Hugh def nightmare to deal with. Their shooting is short ranged but accurate and theyve got sprays which ignore stealth and can clear out whole swathes on bad guys. Essentially, they're a toolbox.

The rifle korps are different. They're a long range shooty/denial unit. Paired with joe, they can kill most low arm infantry up to 14" away. They're fantastic for taking out alpha strikers. As I see it, with their range they're involved in the game a turn sooner than the infantry. That means they can start killing sooner. It means the opponent has one turn less to inflict damage on them than he does with the deathstar. It can be a factor. That said, they're more specialised than generalised but they fill a vital niche.

Should I just get the infantry/joe/attachments and just pick up some widowmakers next instead of the RC or do they fill a different roll altogether?

And what would be a good solo to start with to add a little flavor?

Winterguard Infantry box +UA and Joe is a great buy for any Khador force, the widowmakers are excellent and scary as all hell as they can snipe out support staff (think Menoth choir or Legion shepherds).

Dodge and Weave from the UA is necessary if you want to be able to get into range for your POW14 CRAs.

It's hard to go wrong with the WGI. They are tough to clear out and can deal a surprising amount of damage to a variety of targets.

Rifleman are good, too, but a bit more niche.

If you are starting out the WGI are a more rounded, balanced unit that will help you out in the longer run. As your collection and experience increase then you can add in the RC as wanted. Shoot, eventually you might want to use both.

Get the Winter Guard Infantry box, because you will get the Winter Guard Infantry and 3 Rocketeers. Then if you back them up with a Officer and Standard Bearer and/or Kovnik Joe. This will give you a very solid unit of infantry. Nothing more gratifying than moving your infantry into postition and then letting loose with a Death Star shot and watching an enemy jack disappear.

Good Luck.

Something no ones mentioned is the spray attack the banner from the UA grant.

It, combined with certain casters buffs and Kovnik Joe's boosted attack rolls speech gives them an awesome amount of utility.

The Winter Guard death star (max unit + UA + 3x WA + Joe) are regarded as a bit of a staple of Khador, and rightfully so. They're a great tarpit but can also put in quite a bit of hurt with boosted sprays.

The Rifle Corps is pretty good, especially under Butcher1's feat. Them, alongside Valachev'd Nyss Hunters are an awesome core for a dedicated Butcher1 gunline, or even Vlad1.
