Can anybody recommend any good sources of fluff for these guys beyond the Army Book?

I'm pretty well versed in their 40k counterparts but don't really know much about these guys. I understand that they are perhaps more unique than Chaos Space Marines but any good sources of fluff would be appreciated.

If you think the Army Book is a good resource I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers.

The book "Archaon" is pretty good.

While I don't know any good sources for fluff aside from the army book and the occasional wiki, they are quite interesting. They're actually less evil than their 40k counterparts so expect more anti-hero than full out villain.

There's a book on Archaon?!?

Is it the entire story of Archaon or just one or two battles he was in?

I had no idea either. That just jumped to the top of my list.

From what I've gathered, it's a more fleshed out version of his quest for the six artifacts. Could be a cool read. I had the 7th edition WOC book as part of the infantry I bought from a friend and I later bought the 8th edition one. Even between those two books, the expansion was interesting and it was a much more entertaining read in the current book.

Will pick up the Archaon book then.

So people feel the previous army books were better than the current one in terms of fluff descriptions?

I actually said the exact opposite. I like the Saga of Archaeon in this book more than in the last one even though all they really did was describe his conquest into Naggaroth in more detail including an epic fight between Valkia and a Black Dragon. Plus all that stuff with Vilich.

The fluff about the specific gods were more interesting in the 7th edition book with each page having a specific story about a warband dedicated to each of the four gods. Legions of Nurgle unleashing what's essentially Old World Herbicides to destroy Wood Elves is awesome.

Yeah, the Archaon book covers his fall to chaos and how he obtains the first half of his six artifacts of Chaos.

As for other fluff, I'm not so sure and I' really like to read more myself.

I am currently reading the Archaon book and IMO it does an amazing job describing his fall to Chaos. Turns out (and i never knew this) he was once a very devoted and devout imperial knight. Very enjoyable from what i've read so far and I hope Rob writes another one. I recently picked up the Hordes of Chaos (6th edition army book) at a half price books close to me and i read the fluff it had on the warriors and i thought it provided more insight into them then the current AB. YMMV.

Sigvald, written by Darius Hinks, is by far the best warhammer book i've ever read hands down and got me to start my warriors of chaos army, In it, he does a great job describing slaanesh Chaos warriors if you are in to that sort of thing lol.

Valkia is another one that does a pretty good job detailing her I won't say fall to chaos but how she becomes the Gorequeen. Looking at this one from the lenses of providing you fluff on chaos warriors, it doesn't really do that and focuses more on Chaos Marauders. Still a good read.

Hope this helps.

There are three books that are essential to read for any fan of Chaos, "Liber Chaotica", "Slaves to Darkness" and "Lost and The Damned".

Liber Chaotica is the newest of the three and should be the easiest to find of them, it's written from the in-universe perspective of a empire scholar (If I remember correctly) that documents the four chaos gods and their followers. It deals mostly with Fantasy but has a few nods to 40k as well.

Slaves to Darkness and Lost and the Damned are quite old (published ยด88 and '90 respectively) but they are the seminal work on Chaos in both fantasy and 40k. Slaves to Darkness deals with Khorne and Slaanesh while Lost and the Damned does Nurgle and Tzeentch, the books are filled with gorgeous black and white artwork and lore whose depth rivals any other work GW has put out. These two books created the Chaos faction we know today, but they are not easy to find and quite expensive so your gonna have to work around that somehow.

Wulfrik the Wanderer has his own book too.

The stuff that guy pulls is amazing. He was always one of my favorite warrior SC's, fluff wise.

He's good on the table-top too.
