Hi there everybody! I'm having a bit of a dilemma at the moment. I need the new rules for 40k and was thinking that I could maybe go for the DV kit as it contains a number of models that would be useful, specifically the Terminators, Tactical Squad, Bikers, Librarian and Cultists. The Chaos side doesn't hold a lot for me. The Chosen are boring if you have multiples and I don't want to convert them, and the Lord is the same, as is the Helbrute. The Captain I don't want either. I have all the dice, measures and templates I need. I could split the kit but don't know who with. I could sell them off.

On the other hand, I like having the BRB, and don't mind taking it along to games. While some may dislike the fluff and pictures, I quite enjoy these sections of the book. Plus its a little cheaper than DV, although if I sell off some stuff or split the kit, its more expensive.

So which should I go for? The kits so I can get the SM models, and possibly have some models I don't want, or need to sell off, or should I just get the BRB, which I enjoy in entirety, including fluff and hobby sections?

Edit: I should mention I already got DV when it came out, the LE version, but split with a friend who got the DA stuff, plus the minibook, and all the extra bits and bobs, because I got the Chaplain. So I already have the Chosen, Helbrute, Lord and 19 of the Cultists (lost one).

I'd say go DV when they update the rulebook in it, you can get some money back selling off the other stuff. Besides the minis you don't sell are nice for painting practice at the very least.

To be honest, if you want the fluff and hobby sections, look for a 6th Ed BRB on Ebay. There's more stuff in it, it'll be cheaper, and it's just generally better as a source book.

Well we don't know what is going to happen to DV. WD says stayed tuned, but for what?

You could be waiting another 2 or 3 months for it to be updated.

Also when the book does come out, it may not even be the full rules if rumour has it.

There could even be a new box set. Maybe you will not have those minis.

So many if and or buts, so I say get it now, because this will be 3 months you will not have rules and since you like all the other stuff that is coming with the rule book I say get it now.

I would go for the updated version of dv if it ever comes out with the new 7th update but if you were going to go for something now out of desperation then again current dv.

Reason being you could use the models , sell the rest and let the gains go toward the brb if you don't mind carrying the brick around. I personally would prefer as I love the fluff and pics too

Thanks for the suggestions but I don't need 2 Rulebooks, and if I were to get DV it would be for the book. I'm not desperate enough to get it for the 6th Ed rules or the models. Basically, thanks for the suggestion but I'm not getting both :p

Dark Vengeance was one of the few GW products worth the money lately. Horribly balanced forces if you want to play them against each other, but great looking models and great value. It's rumoured the rules being put into the DV boxset won't be complete 7th ed but will be just enough to play DV, if that's the case you're boned in that regard but the models are still great.

You missed a third option, that being the internet is your friend.

Get the book. All the people who already have Dark Vengeance will only be looking for the mini-rulebook, so there will be lots of DV models sold cheaply online you can pick up somewhere down the line.

Not an option. My closest gaming location and best option for gaming is a GW.

Wait for DV to be updated, then buy it, then sell the miniatures for ~40-60$ per faction.
