You will want from here: Rules (Core rules 2nd edition) Human Sphere - Rules (Human Sphere rules) Human Sphere - Addendum (Human Sphere updates) New Rules (Updated 6/4/2014) (Campaign pardiso rules without the Campaign rules - you need to buy the book for those) These will cover the actual rules for the game. You will then want: Human Sphere - Weapon List (Weapons added in Human Sphere) New Weapons (Campaign Paradiso) (Weapons added in Campaign Paradiso) All of these are under the 'Rules' section. Then you will want, from the 'Army Lists' section: Army and Weapon Lists (Core second edition army lists, profiles and weapon stats) Campaign Paradiso - Army Lists (New units added in Campaign Paradiso) Human Sphere - Army Lists (New units added in Human Sphere) New Profiles (Updated 6/4/2014) (New units and profiles added since Campaign paradiso) [English] Bounty Hunters (rules for Authorised Bounty Hunters) The rules are very fragmented. Probably the biggest complaint I have with the free rules. There's a fan edit floating around that organises it all into 1 pdf with better layout, but I can never remember where it is, and from last I checked it's missing the Paradiso stuff.

Ugh. That's all pretty daunting for those of us interested in starting up.
I got the Quick Start rules off Beasts of War, but have yet to give them a run out.

Most of that can be covered by the wiki and/or newest army builder. And here is the fan edit Loki was talking about.

The QuickStart rules are perfectly fine for starting. If you like the game, expand to the core second edition rulebook. Once you're comfortable, expand to human sphere (which adds link teams). While it's good grabbing all of the PDFs, you don't have to start with everything.

I really, really recommend you find someone who knows the rules and be taught instead of learning yourself.
This is not a hard game to understand - it is, however, a hard game to pick up from out of a book.

I downloaded the fan edited rules to read through when I first learned about the game because as said above the official rules are kind of spread out. Reading through those was pretty easy to follow and the massive list of weapons, equipment, and special rules at the back of the book (while quite daunting) definitely put a lot of the scattered material in one place. Loki is correct that it doesn't cover Paradiso stuff. I just discovered why I wasn't familiar with a couple of weapons I really should have been familiar with. Also the Infinity wiki is really quite nice and very comprehensive, including FAQ rulings that clarify aspects of the rules. P.S. If you don't have someone to teach you the game, then watching battle reports on the internet is quite a good way to get started. It certainly clarified many things about the game for me and showed me how tings should work. Miniwargaming has some up, although they might not be the best to learn from because the guys doing them freely admit that they are just learning the game as well and will probably make mistakes.

I now have the fan edited, all of the downloads, and the physical hardback. I am set.

Captain Killhammer McFighterson stared down at the surface of Earth from his high vantage point on the bridge of Starship Facemelter. Something ominous was looming on the surface. He could see a great shadow looming just underneath the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, slowly spreading northward. "That can't be good..." he muttered to himself while rubbing the super manly stubble on his chin with one hand. "But... on the other hand..." he looked at his shiny new bionic murder-arm. "This could be the perfect chance for that promotion." A perfect roundhouse kick slammed the ship's throttle into full gear. Soon orange jets of superheated plasma were visible from the space-windshield as Facemelter reentered the atmosphere at breakneck speed. |

Did you get all the downloads, there is at least 4 each (rules, army list, and weapons) one for each of the 3 books and 1 for the yet to be released book. The book after 3ed (v1.2) with the new sectionals, for 3ed they should just replace the 2ed download files.

The HMG and Combi Rifle are in 'Army and Weapon Lists'. As I mentioned above, it has the Core second edition army lists, profiles and weapon stats. The HMG and combi rifle were weapons from the core book. IIRC, the weapon list is the last page.

When it comes to list tinkering and weapon stats I strongly recommend using an online application. Aleph Toolbox is quite nice in that it gives stats and weapon profiles for everything, and it's a lot lighter weight than the official infinity one which is quite a big flash file with a lot of (maybe unnecessary) features.
Plus I'm pretty sure that you can get Aleph as a mobile app, but since I don't believe in mobile computing I'll not confirm or deny this one.

Depends what mobile device you have.
If you have an Android phone or tablet, you want Aleph Toolbox.
If you have an iPad, you want Mayanet (and so do a lot of people with Android, but they're sticking to Apple).
If you have an iPhone, you want Ops: Infinity.
All 3 have different levels of external interactivity with the wiki and different features. Mayanet is the most complete tool I've seen, with the wiki information inside the App, a 3 pane panel with list, stats and 'play' where you track dead/unconscious models for Retreat and LoL purposes and more. Ops Infinity mostly just has unit profiles and wiki hotlinks for weapons/gadgets/skills. I haven't used Aleph toolbox in a LONG time, so I can't comment on its feature list.

Aleph is not available from itunes for iOS devices anymore (it may be being rehosted somewhere else - a couple of aussie players were looking at doing that).
I use it on my android tablet (7") - I'm not using any app that forces me to read something on a 4x3" screen (not on my phone) - and as an ex-employee-of-the-fruit-company-with-a-pathological-hatred-of-that-company, I will never own an i-device.

I use the downloadable rules from the main rulebook and Human Sphere.
- Use the online army builder for unit stats/weapon loadouts
- Official wiki for unit and weapon stats.

Ops: infinity is pretty good. only complaint I have is it's a bit of a battery drain, but that may just be iOS 7.
