Whats the diff between the official GW model and the FW model?

The Forgeworld one is resin and the GW one is plastic.

The GW one also comes with a bunch of different weapons, while you have to order the arms separately for FW's dreads.

That's really the only difference.

Forgeworld's Dreads, all of them except the Contemptor, are really just there to give you different aesthetic options. That way you can have, for example, a really snazzy Thousand Sons Dreadnought without needing to be a wizard with green stuff.

I like the odds and ends on the DA ven, but the C:SM is much easier to get

They are also slightly smaller than their plastic/metal counterparts. Not by much though.

The Forgeworld one is a MK IV, the plastic one is a MK V.

If I bought a MK V dreadnought, what would I need to convert it to a Mortis for AA support? FW sells the Mortis guns, but not the model itself, so I think I'll need to convert

What are you calling "Mortis"?

Are you talking about a Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought?

Or a "Mortis" Dreadnought, a Dread with 2 ranged weapons on it?

Depends on the weapons you want. The plastic kits come with single lascannon & missile launcher arms and you can get the other from Forgeworld, or they sell pairs of heavy bolter or auto cannon arms. I've also seen a lot of auto cannon dreads (riflemen) converted using the aegis quad gun.

2nd pic, would have said contemptor if I meant that. On the FW site, 2nd pick only has guns for sale but not a "mortis" model

The Mortis isn't a specific model. It's just a name for a dreadnought with two (generally identical) ranged weapon arms.

your best bet might be to get a black reach dreadnought, get the arms from wherever ya can, and magnetize that baby.

I like those massive AA cannons that apparently only the contemptor can you which is annoying.

I plan on getting a minimum of two Venerables and magnetizing all the arms/weapons so I can freely adjust depending on the situation pregame

There is no "Mortis" model.

Just grab a dreadnought you like and make it shooty.

Best of luck.

The Forgeworld one also predates the newer plastic model. FW was also the only place you could get weapon options that didn't come with the plastic kit.

Yeah I think I'll just get a plastic one, thanks

I bought a plastic ironclad and a FW ironclad. The plastic one came with 4 arms. Since I magnetize anyways it left me with two arms I could give to my FW model

The Forgeworld ones also happen to have vastly more detail on them and come in a lot of Legion specific options.
