So I've been musing about an ork army based around a FW's kustom stompa. Would this be fun or viable? how would this work? Should I go all big guns on it or should I make it a close combat stompa with two titan weapons and some flame belchers? is the Hellstorm template always torrent? some help would be great!

Wait a week or two, get the new dex then ask that

An idea that the stompa may be in the new dex anyways, so its own rules may have changed.

I don't remember where it says it, but in a previous discussion it was cited that the FW custom stompa rules are no longer legal. If you're playing fun games, go right ahead and use it, but if you're opponent wants you to be official, you're stuck with one of the two terrible ones from apoc or escalation.

I highly doubt there will be one in the codex, since guard didn't get a baneblade, but hey here's for hoping!

Anyway I would still follow that advice to wait for the new codex, because it will completely change the way the rest of the army will play

As far as guns versus Stompy, I'd still go a shooty version. It can still Stomp and can be Str 10 just not D strength.

Yeah, waiting is a good plan. ("cunning even ) I feel a strong temptation to build a Big Mek army with a Stompa, a Gorkanaught, and/or Morkanaught(s), and Deffdread(s) taken as Troops. plus some killa cans, and Grots

well the stompa in the dex idea was based off that onthe GW site you can buy that set thats a stompa, gork/morknaught, dreads and cans. thus leading to the idea that they will all be fieldable together. heres hoping!

Forgeworld released two sets of Ork superheavys. The first had the kustom, the second (from the dreadmob pdf) did not have the kustom and had the big mek stompa instead.

You could easily take that to mean the kustom is no longer an option. At the same time though, they haven't actually gone out and said that first list is invalidated.

Real men field Klawstompas anyway.

Yeh really hoping walker lists are viable again

I have soo many units to convert, as a friend gave me a load of 40k he had as a kid, combined with some stuff i had. ive got like:

6 crisis suits
dreadknight
pentant engine
warwalker (old style)
old school CSM dreadnaught
hammerhead
Old school CSM bikes
rhinos
falcon

and then just a whole loads of ork bits from kan kits etc...

Really hoping some big walker is in the dex that isnt the gork/mork as I need something to finish up this dude as: (hes clearly got no transport capacity either - so id rather not make him be a gork/mork :(

A Kustom Stompa is currently the only way to field a Klawstompa.

There also is no way to field a stompa without a close combat weapon, so it's always strength D.

Assuming you can't field the kustom stompa, the regular stompa has become quite good actually. With the nerf to D weapons, the massive S10 AP1 blast is not a much weaker choice. Since the super-gatler is no longer co-axial, can freely pick targets and can't jam on the first shot it actually is pretty awesome and mowing down infantry of any kind. On top of that, Supa-rokkits have finally got the blast rule, so they can also blow up a bunch of models each. Definitely bring as many as you can. It's a decent shooting unit and will easily best a knight in close combat

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

@solar: that looks like it could be a mega dread from FW! =D

@ Jidmah

oh, really? the regular stompa seems so weak compared to the flame/claw thing I could make. is there still shields? and with the gatling, what's it's BS to be able to hit?

It is assuming you can't field the kustom stompa. Actually getting a synergistic load-out beats a bunch of random guns any day.

Super-gatler is BS2, of course. You get 3x 2d6 S7 AP3 shots at up to three targets though. Don't know about shields, I'll look at the escalation book later.
