So if the Imperial Knights were taken as your primary force would they all have the score and not contestable rule as they are scoring units in primary or are they just regular scoring units whether they are your primary or not? Just curious...

Armies
Eldar, Dark Eldar, Harlequins, Eldar Corsairs, Orks, Tyranids, Genestealer Cult, Chaos, Choas Space Marines, Tau, Sisters of Battle, Inquisition, Necrons, Space Marines, Space Wolves, Grey Knights, Imperial Knights, Dark Angels, Imperial Guard, Ad Mech, Knights, Skaven, Sylvaneth

Are they troops? Because only troops get objective secured.

I play Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Astra Militarum, Militarum Tempestus, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Orks, Adepta Sororitas, 'Nids, Necrons, Tau and Grey Knights.

You only get the Objective Secured bonus, if the units where chosen from a Detachment that has the Objective Secured Command Bonus.
Curently that is ONLY the Combined Arms and Allied detachments.

So if your codex says they use their own type of Detachment, then no, they don't get that bonus.

Not quite true.
Only troops in a detachment with that particular Command Bonus, get it.

So why play a full imperial knight army? Doesn't it become the primary detachment if at least 3 are taken?

Yes they do but they don't gain the benefit from the detachment listed in the rule book. most formations or detachments in other supplements have there own bonuses.

Yes, but being primary I'd not sufficient to get the command bonus, one of which is objective secured

It does say they become scoring, but obviously before objective secured 7th so unclear

No it is not at all unclear

Read the rules for detachments. Not the COMMAND BENEFITS heading. Note that is what gives OS to CAD and Ally detachments. Note the lack of this in formations, imperial knight, etc.

No command benefit, no way to make them OS unless they have a specific rule stating such

theres a faq for them refering to this.

The FAQ states that a the whole knight army stuff in there codex is redundant so ignore all that.

A knight detachment is 1-3 knights that if you have 3 one can be your warlord and becomes an IC and can roll on there warlord traits. Also if you have a knight (not needing 3) and no other characters on your army then he can become warlord but doesnt auto gain sensechal.

They are all scoring units as everything but zooming flyers and swooping FMC are but there detachments dont have the Objectove Scored command benefit on the CAD and skyblight swarm ive seen so far have the command benefit OS

"and with but a little push it all goes BANG!!"
