Hello all, Dark Pony painting just completed it's commission on the building and painting of a Phantom Titan from Forgeworld. They had gotten their's at Yoymart so the quality wasn't as good as an actual Forgeworld mold but it wasn't to hard to work with. I hope you enjoy what we've done with it at our Painting level one. We appreciate your interest in this!

It looks good, but I would clean up the stencil lines a bit. It looks like you just went straight over the primer after masking it off, and the green seems to have bled out under the tape a fair bit, so does the white. Going back over it with the black to straighten up the lines would do those markings a world of good. Also, I'm not really sure what you were trying to achieve with the chipping/battle damage on the back veins, but it looks a little like the paint just peeled off after you masked it; though to be fair, I can't really get a good look from these photos.

Your OSL could also do with a little work, you've got the basic principle down, but there need to be a few more layers. I know from experience how tempting it is just to throw down a gradient with an airbrush and call it done, especially on a level one commission, but OSL can't really be done halfheartedly.

Sorry for being so negative, but criticism is the key to improvement. On the upside though, I love what you've done with the blade, the runes are really crisp, and the way they sort of fade into the darker half looks really cool.

Looks good.

I'd recommend taking the time to set up a background, though, even if it's just a sheet or plain board, just something behind it so the model doesn't get lost among the background.

Also, some pics of the whole model would be cool.

But other than that, good stuff.

Out of curiosity, what issues did you have with the cast quality?

I disapprove of the pony, BUT I APPROVE OF THE TITAN.
Love the battle damage.

Honestly?? This is pretty bad.

What is the blue around the eyes? Is that supposed to be a lighting effect? That sort of technique works well on Space Marine eyes that are only 1mm in size, but it doesn't scale up to a model of this size. It just looks like he has blue eye-shadow, not that they're "glowing". The same thing with the spirit stones. It doesn't even look like any serious effort was made to do multiple layers of highlights. It just looks like it's sprayed with some blue paint.

I understand that the client bought this from a third-party website, and you might have had issues with the model. However the legs look so bad that it looks like the model fell, broke apart, and was glued back together.

The decals are applied very hap-hazardly, and you can see in the picture that the one on the helmet is even peeling off!

About the only compliment I can pay on this is that the paint-chipping battle weathering effect on the back fins looks pretty cool.

Otherwise.... I'm sorry but I wouldn't show this piece off as a showpiece for your commissions. I can understand that a model like this is very time consuming, and you probably only had but so much time you could spend on it for the money you were being paid to produce it.

I unfortunately must agree with this assessment. I am thoroughly unimpressed by the work here. I apologise for the bluntness and harshness of my critique but I believe you need to understand, OP, that the work presented in your post appears to my eye, although I may not myself be a fantastic painter, as somewhat lazy, half-hearted and as the incident of the peeling decal suggests, not worth my money.

Apologies again for the abruptness.
