Hey, first time posting on Dakka Dakka, but I've recently caught the Ork bug.

This is my first time painting Xenos, so i thought i'd start a thread to get some feedback and etc from other hobby-ists. Hoping to log my army progress here too.

So far got thirteen Nobz off ebay to get me started, and I gotta say they're alot of fun to paint. So much easier than the marines im used to. Anyway... 'ERE WE GO!!

C&C Welcome.

Got another three on the go, this is how they look with all the base colours on. Just got to make them pretty now, lol.

Its alot of fun painting infantry with the same brush i'd use for a space marine tank.

Nice stuff, not too yellow, which I like.

Cheers mate! I really liked the yellow and the green together (Was thinking about red + green, but it reminded me too much of Christmas ) but I want my Orks to look like bad guys.

Which can be difficult, cause they're sorta goofy. Hopefully this next batch of Nobz will show what i'm aiming for alot better than my test model.

Heres three more Noz for da Waaaagghhh!!

Really pleased with how they came out, big improvement over the test mini I think. Not sure if i like the Khaki trousers, may change them. The models with just black/brown clothes look alot more menacing.
Which is what I'm going for.

Semi-bright Orks, that still look horriffic and scary. Let me know if i've succeeded? lol

Showing off the dags a little more

So i've made a start on my Warboss, wanted him to be a little different.

The original head is screaming out to be part of a Ghaz conversion in the future, so i've given him a regular Nob head and swapped his shoota for a Choppa. Because what self-respecting ork doesn't want more Choppas?

Can't decide on the hair-do though. Generally prefer bald Orks, but the Top Knot gives him some height.

To make him Top-Knot-Ch (cringe) or not?

Update!!

Got a bit inspired, and finished up the Warboss. Bosspole/severed heads are tacked on at the mo, will paint them seperate to stop them getting in the way.

Feel like this is one of my coolest converted models yet, let me know what you think.

Sculpted pelt to go with the fur on the guys backpack, also covers up a hole left in the kustom 'eavy arm, armour.

Cool boss! Is the arm from a regular Nob kit?

Cheers mate!

The Choppa arm? Its from one of the AOBR Nobz. The Claw arm is part of the Warboss model, also from the AOBR set.

Great skin on these guys, and I like the little glyphs and checks here and there.

Cheers guys!

@Jay, the skin is Waaaghh Flesh as a basecoat, followed by a layer of Knarloc Green (This is an older base paint? Not sure if updated now), followed by a layer of Camo Green mixed 50/50 with Knarloc (This is also probably outdated) then a watered down Biel Tan wash. Then i use straight camo green to highlight the skin. With the Warboss i added some Bleached Bone and did some extra highlights.

The lips and mouth get a Warlock Purple wash which changes the tone slightly.

Anyway guys, finished my Warboss!! Just in time for the new codex.

Presenting.... Gharkul Blood-Spitta.

Need to get better at taking photos...

Cheers mate!

With the Warboss and a few Nobz out of the way i've mostly been building models.

Getting an Ork force together is a bit of a slog... Theres so many. And the worst part is they're mostly fodder. You then need to get and put together the parts of your army that fulfill a role on the battlefield.

Guess im just spoiled from playing jack of all trades : Marines.

Anyway, first Ork squad underway, and a beefy Big Mek with Big Choppa is ready for some paint too.
