So I'm traveling to London next week for a few days and I wondering if there's some big or special GW store that might be worth seeing? Maybe it has a huge display or has a bigger inventory than other stores.

Well, I do know the mother of all GW stores, Warhammer World, is in Nottingham. But of course that isn't all that helpful, sorry.

welcome to london, there are a good number of GW and non-GW stores; probably the best one is GW oxfordstreet; it is in plaza and it has some display, it open 7 days a week.

GW covent garden is a small store, really for the tourist;

I say second best store is actually an non gw store call dark sphere; they do stock GW stuff and they are now around vauxhall which is quite hard to get to; but they have the space; really the space.

another store that you probably want to go and see is orcs nest; it is around leicester square; they are inde store does not stock gw but loads of rpg / wargame goodies. worth a visit.

there are other stores that is around london, gw blue water, gw bromley, gw croydon, gw sutton, gw epsom, gw kingston, gw south kensington, etc, I think that cover all the gw in south london.

around croydon there is another inde store call hero and legends; they also have a store in subiton; I think they are closing surbition branch;

these other stores are not really central london it might be hard to get to. if you have the time and the mean to travel you better off go to nottingham / warhammer world.

GW HQ is in Nottingham, which is considerably further north. The UK is pretty small though, so you could make a day trip (or two day trip) to Nottingham depending on how long you're here for, if you wanted to.

But yeah, not everything significant about the UK is in London...

Nottingham is about 3 hours north of London by train so its perfectly possible to make a day trip there but in reality there isn't much to see. there is a small (its basically a single room) museum which houses GW's studio armies past and present although I don't think there is anything there before 2nd ed, if that.

Warhammer world is a pretty good gaming venue but that's all it is and the adjacent pub is likewise nothing special.

if you are in Nottingham its worth a visit (it is free after all) but I personalyl won't advise you to travel there specially to see GW towers.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Definitely worth visiting Dark Sphere; nice folk, great range of stuff, GW plus Kromlech etc etc etc and it's 25 per cent off UK price if you spend more than £75.

Sadly the imperial war museum, directly nearby, is closed until July, but Lower Marsh in Waterloo is a good place to spend an afternoon (there are several good book shops, plus another pretty decent model shop).

Another +1 for Dark Sphere, haven't been there since it moved location but if it has kept stock levels as they were before it is a real Aladdin's Cave!

Yes definitely pay a trip to dark Sphere, it's actually near Lambeth North tube which is about a 5-10 minute walk from Waterloo Station, so actually very easy to get to.

https://www.darksphere.co.uk/

They have a larger stock of GW stuff than most London GW stores, as well as offering between 20-25% off.

They also stock pretty much every other game you can think of, so Malifaux, X-Wing, Dystopian Wars, Drop Zone Commander, DUST, FoW etc etc.

The guys in there are great, they have a lot of gaming space and it is definitely worth a visit, probably closer in feel to a US games store than a UK one.

However they don't have much in the way of displays or figure cabinets (just 2 small cabinets in the window).

GW Plaza on Oxford Street is definitely worth a look too, they have some nice tables and figure cabinets but otherwise it's just your average GW store.

GW Covent Garden is absolutely tiny, so not much to see there.

In fact Warhammer World really is the only place in the UK that has anything to look at and is worth a visit if you can get there, but as has been mentioned it'll take a bout 3 hours or so to get there from London.

Orc's Nest? I saw them advertising in an old issue of White Dwarf I was flicking through the other day. Did wonder at the time how many of those shops were still trading. Nice to see they are still around

Warhammer World is meant to be getting a bit renovation soon (end of summer), but the staff have apparently been told not to discuss it, so if you're going this year I'd have some sort of back-up plan sorted in case you're in and out of WHW in 10 minutes.

Edit: Nothing seems likely to happen next week, but the warning still stands.

The facility to purchase FW items there and then is quite nice. if they fon't have what you're after in stock, they'll ship it to you for free.

You do need to wait about for 3/4 hours to get it that day though unless it's one of the items they keep a stock of. Do they ship abroad for free too?

There is a little bit of misinformation floating around this thread.

You can get from London St Pancreas to East Midlands Parkway in less than 1.5 hours. Then its about a 20 minute taxi ride to WHW.

Warhammer World is definitely worth a visit of if you are in anyway a fan of GW. There is the life size rhino tank in the car park, bugman's, the gaming and miniatures halls. There are numerous displays around the building of miniatures and dioramas. It is the Mecca of Warhammer gaming and imo definitely worth a visit.

I am biased as it is my local gaming venue though
