this model is such an inspiration, i made my own zagstruk based off it. i dont want to thread jack and post picks, im alsmost done with mine, i went without the greatcoat, but i made the choppa a lil bigger just for the hell of it. i have grot bombs but didnt want to use them, i sued a random FW rokkit from the bomb pack.
great work, as usual.

Just make a separate thread. You can't pique my curiosity like that and expect me not to ask to see.

I have been fighting myself as hard as I can on this. My urge to shift to a different project is strong, but I really want to get something done, too, so I'm trying to force myself to drive on through this a bit more. I've tweaked and modified a lot of little things, so I thought I'd share.
Changes: I've dremelled the grot bomb just a tiny bit to sit closer to the body. I'm happy with where it is right now, I think. I also finished the glyph and added wings onto the bomb for a little extra steerage. An afterburner exhaust was capped onto the end of the rokkit, as well. Ork glyphs were added to his legs as shin armor. I've tried sculpting pants a number of times, but I just can't seem to get anything I'm happy with, as I keep pulling the sculpting off. I've just put a new layer of brownstuff on around the hip area that you can see in the photos - once that dries, I'll try sculpting the pants over that and see how it goes again. I don't know if I want the pants to be tattered around the upper leg or simply short-cut - Zagstruk seems like the kind of Blood Axe who would take care of his clothes, though.
I need to add the harness to hold the rokkit onto his back, but I can't think of anything I'd be happy with. Emulating the Stormboy Nob detail is one thing, but I don't want to put the harness sitting that high - it would cover the 'teeth' on the grot bomb up. I need something slightly lower-slung. I'm considering ditching the metal support brace appearance for something that relies a lot more on straps to harness the grot bomb to him, though I haven't entirely thought it through yet. I'm waiting for a good idea or two to hit me.

When in doubt, keep it simple! Might I recommend copying the excelent design from the disney movie the rocketeer. It looks passable as real, and its related to a movie about strapping crazy rockets to your back.

Why not just add braces on either side of the rokkit? I'm thinking just behind the teeth on the bomb, there's a center strip of plating that looks perfect. You could attach it to his shoulders, just tucked under the wings.

lookin' fine!
Re the harness, so long as there are some sort of straps crossing the body from the back, that's all you need. Or, thinking about it, he might have cut a big hole in the back of his coat for the rocket to clip onto the harness he wears under the coat? If you can imply that (with rips, glimpsed straps under the coat etc), that might be simpler than worrying about modelling a harness pressing in on the outside of the coat

In regards to pants, I suspect that no matter how much he tries to take care of his clothing, putting those feet through a pair of slacks is going to shred them pretty well. I think the only thing that will make sense is a pair of pants tattered around the knees, sort of like cut off shorts made by jamming giant jagged metal prosthetics through normal pants. Putting on jeans while wearing a pair of sneakers is bad enough
Looks great so far though. I think the jacket came out well enough; a bit of decent paint and it will get the idea across without being a question/attention focus item.

true. I suppose the logical solution would be those 'zip down the outside legs' trousers that athletes wear while waiting to compete. Then again, do orks ever change their trousers?

Or tear away nylon pants? I don't know that that will match the feel of the model Now, if he did an ork in a wife beater and jogging suit with gold chains and a pinky ring....
I don't know, I personally like the idea of the ork just taking what he likes and calling it "working". I can't imagine he would think too hard about something so mundane as pants. (As opposed to a hat and cool coat that make him look more impressive.)

Ive been using the plastic rod from a flying base on my Zag for about 3 months, I think, and I have yet to have a breakage issue. I cant speak to how heavy yours is, but mine weighs about the same as a normal stormboy.
edit; my comp messed up the forum and only revealed the thread to the end of the first page, sorry for posing a reply to something that was covered so long ago.

Again, while there is no "Threadnomancy" in the painting and modeling forums, this is generally to allow the OP to update his or her thread as necessary, regardless of time passed, or to ask the OP questions about the subject piece..
For the most part, resurrecting a thread merely to say "Wow!" is considered a bit of bad form.
Please keep this in mind going forward.
