Drop the Dracon.
Drop the Wyches.
Drop 2 grotesques off each squad.
Drop the destructors off the Haemonculi.

That leaves you 90 points to cut. Drop 12 warriors (2 from each squad).

Easy peasy.

Does the army actually get the portals into decent positions against armies with large amounts of str6+ shooting? I can see a need to hide the portals behind terrain and perhaps benefit from the extra few inches that would give...but actually moving them forwards from the deployment line?

Crossing fingers for first turn a lot I suppose.

Eldar have str6 shooting coming out their pointy hats.
Surely a hammerhead sub-munition round or two would ruin the grotesques day as well.

To clarify I mean what does the army do against a skimmer heavy shooty army that sits back for the first few turns?

How will you change the army for 5th edition?

Especially with the changes to template weapons in mind.

Would you have to swap in some lances?

I see it getting a bit better (until the new codex comes out).

Most armies can't kill everything in a turn. Many armies have difficulty killing all of them in two turns, even going first.

You only need to survive to your turn 2 to be able to alpha strike almost anywhere on the board.

Against a heavy shooty army, you hide his turn 1, move your turn 1, take some cover saves, and deploy on your turn 2. You usually don't need to, as the IC status protects you.

Anyway, you can always run 2 big foot squads of warriors with splinter cannons and a sybarite with the portal.

You get the same effect. That's probably what I'd do in 5th, you will be forced to take morale checks but you'll get more cover saves and be more able to defend yourself from fast vehicles coming to get you.
