I'm not going to do the whole thing, just a sample to show what I'm getting at.

Special Rules (apply to whole army)

Close Order Drill: Works the same way it does now except all units can use it.

Chain of Command: Imperial Guard Armies ignore the Force Org Chart (see below)

Troops:

Infantry Platoon - 2 squads of 10 guardsmen armed with lasguns and flak armour (5+) - 110 points

Each squad is a scoring unit

Each squad may upgrade to a veteran sergeant for +5 (armed with a CCW and laspistol)

Each squad may take a heavy weapon (2 man crew)

Each squad may take a special weapon (same ones as now)

Each Squad may take a Chimera +50 points

Each Platoon MAY include a command squad. Squads within 6" of their associated command squad may use the officer's Ld for checks. Indicated officers include a staff of 4 Guardsmen armed with lasguns

1. Commissar +30 points
-Commissar may perform a summary execution (not from their staff unless that's the squad falling back) to prevent a squad from falling back (after they have failed a morale check.) Commissar allows squads within 6" to add +1 to combat resolution scores.
-Allows the IG player to add one of of the following units:
-Sanctioned Psyker and staff (Elites)

2. Captain +40 points
-Ld9, staff can take up to 2 special weapons
-Allows the IG player to add one of the following units for the appropriate points cost:
-Hellhound (Fast)
-Hardened Veterans (Elites)

3. Ranger Lieutenant +50 points
-Cameoleoline gives a +1 cover save but the unit loses its 5+ save.
-Sniper rifle can be taken as special weapon, Demo charge can be taken
-No heavy weapon but additional special can be taken
-Infiltrate, Move through cover
-Allows the IG player to add one of the following units at the normal points cost:
-Ratling Snipers
-Sentinel Squadron

See where I'm going with this? The other units you can field depends on the command squads you buy for your troops platoons. The HQ choices would determine which type and quantity of "power" units such as Leman Russ tanks that you can field.

It almost forces you to make a themed list. Want lots of sentinels? Better be prepared to field a light infantry force. (and so on.)

H-Vets sucked in the last Guard Codex. The points costs for their guns were insane. They were no good at anything. They're one of the things that improved in the current Codex.

I totally agree with you that their new entry is vastly improved in many respects. I just love the idea of 5 BS4 plasma weapons in one squad, or 3 meltas and two plasmas is all.
Can you blame me?
I wasn't trying to say everything should go back to the way it was before, just a few things.

Hardened Veterans are much better in this edition.

Yes, but in the new codex the "Vet Officer" replaces the Vet Sergeant, which means you get one less BS4 plasma weapon opportunity.
Aside from that, I do enjoy their new lower point cost and their infiltration ability.

It was kinda nice when they could have an Officer. He wasn't much good, but it was one of the few 'little squad of characters', each with different weapons and abilities.

Last Chancers are like that now, but they won't survive into the next Codex, can garentee that.

Is this just a hunch, or do you have evidence?

What do the Last Chancers have now?

Lots of options.

What do current 40K 'Jervis Edition' Codices not have?

Options.

Therefore, Last Chancers will cease to exist in the next Codex because they have lots of options and are a very customisable unit. We might see H-Vets become some sort of generic 'half-way' point, but a special character unit where you can have 20 something men, each with their own special weapon? No chance.

Orks 6pts FC,S-4,T-4 Waggah ,Run,Bolt Pistol, CCW (or shootas)

IG-6pts Las gun and 1 spec. weap. & 1 Heavy

Just want cheaper IG and Heavy Stubber

And so options Unlike new Chaos marines.
