Daemon weapons are great imo. Khorne for obscene # of attacks, Nurgle for wounding MCs, characters, etc. Slaanesh for HQ/Elite killing, Tzeentch for shooting, and Undivided for squad-killing.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I saw a guy roll 4,6 twice in a game vs CSM, it was crazy, and he won. I will never use a SAG but I really enjoy watching others use theirs.

Sorceror is a better choice than DP due to the fact that you just cannot hide MC's effectively in 5th. A sorceror is just fine in a squad of plague marines or termies and costs 125 to a DP's 155.

The real chaos dilemmas are in certain choices in the army... there are a couple good troop builds and plenty of OK troop builds....

Are there any HQ builds that aren't better than a DP? I know some people swear by sorcerors or demon weapons or lightning claw lords but I'm not buying it.

Any Elite squads that make me want to not take termies?
Chosen and possessed aren't that exciting.... chosen have potential but I haven't seen them used as anything other than a forward deep strike homer so far. I wouldn't touch dreads with a ten foot pole.

Any fast attack choices better than raptors?
Bikes suck and spawn are even worse.

Any Heavy choices better than Oblits (or LR?)
There are a couple havoc builds that are OK, but rarely are they better than a similarly priced squad of oblits. The tanks suck, vindis are interesting but the side armor is so weak....

Maybe I'm just in a rut, but my 5th ed. army builds come down to the same basic list with some different troop options and different ways to outfit my termies...

I think that's pretty much true,

there are combinations where some things are better than others, (Slaneesh Sorc with Lash + Raptors is pretty good)

The only place i'd disagree with the above is in heavy support, there are times pie plate goodness is very effective, and for that vindicators and occasionally defilers are very good.

But yeah elites and fast attack do seem very obvious.

I think the sorceror is a better choice than a DP since you can't hide the DP. I also am exploring Land raiders in my CSM lists now. With that in mind, I really like chosen in a LR packing 4 flamers.

Here is another "don't" of chaos.

There is not a thousand sons codex out. Your friend shouldn't be starting 'them'. If he plays "Chaos" then he can have a couple of units of Tsons for those games where he feels he'll see a lot of marines.

GW is homogenizing theme in all of their armies. People who are investing time and money into armies and creating 'boxes' around themselves with self-imposed restrictions need to prepare to lose a lot, or find lots of other opponents who like boxing themselves in.

sorry to focus in on your friend so much but this is just one of those issues that needs to get adjusted to by everyone. And chaos in particular has been living with this new paradigm longer than most...

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

I think I might build a winged sorc to try out with some raptors, thats not a bad idea at all. I also use land raiders, although its mostly assault-equipped termi transport. I don't like blowing up a heavy slot for the LR, although a LR full of zerks could be good. I've been fiddling with Abaddon and 4 termies in a LR, but its such a huge points sink I'm not sure about it.

What is good about chosen with flamers in a land raider? I guess I'm not seeing the tactical use of it, nor am I seeing why its a good deal points wise. Not doubting you, I just need educated.

Is land raider a transport choice for chosen? I do not think that it is, which means that it eats up a heavy support choice and cannot infiltrate b/c it isn't a dedicated transport. Also, land raiders have zero fire points, don't they? Meaning you can't drive by people in a LR, you have to get out to flamer them?

I don't have my codex with me.... If I am wrong about all this stuff, and you can infiltrate the raider and drive by people with flamers, then yeah, I can see how that would be very good!
