#1 - Open topped vehicles just don't cut it. Shooting effectiveness against them didn't drop at all.

#2 - Outflanking works...if you have large numbers of squads, and those squads can reliably move more than 12" a turn. And if you have enough stuff to reliably threaten the center.

Agreed on both. I ran a unit of sentinels with lascannons in the 'ard boys and they didn't pull their weight in a single game. The two missions in wich I outflanked with them I was quite underwhelmed.

I also had an opponent run a unit of sentinels and they were laughably easy to kill so I don't think it was just how I was running them.

7) I'm simply not that good a 40k player. I realized that I don't think ahead, I don't predict enemy moves, I overestimate my chances of success while minimizing my opponents chances, and I still have trouble estimating distances.

Honesty is very refreshing on these boards. Most find excuses so props to Polonius.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I was absolutely robbed by my opponents dice! One guy made 8 of 8 Disruption pod saves, and another only failed 4 saves after 3 full avenger squads bladestormed his doomed Belial Termie squad. When I was playing the tau player, after about 4 straight cover saves, I kept saying "you can't make them all", which, of course, he proceeded to.

What I realized was that I'm simply a better player than either player I went up against, and while I didn't make any fundamental mistakes, I should have done better in both games.

#1 If your buddy wants to play your tournament army beforehand, but doesn't bring his own tournameny army--take a pass.

#2 Any time someone tells you "there is a way to cheese it out" in a game, make sure you stop play and look the rule up.
