Hi my computer specs are:

Windows XP SP3
AMD 3.4 GHz (single core) processor
2.2 GB RAM (XP)
256MB Video Card (Shader Model 3) - ATI X1650 (1280x768 widescreen)
5.5+ GB of Hard Drive space

They fall somewhere in-between minimum and recommended specs. When I run the demo and set all the settings to minimum the game slows down in four player and is unplayably slow in six player.

Is this the expected speed from a computer with my specs or am I doing something wrong?

For comparison DoW: Soulstorm runs in 1440x900x32 with all settings to max (except terrain set to med) and does not slow down at all even in eight player.

I'd just like to know before I make the mistake of buying a game my computer can't handle.

Thanks

Where can I write feedback?

I just played some games against the ai and it was rather disappointing, but mainly due to the bad ai (even on expert).

I was expecting a feel of CoH and didn't quite get it. That was bad at first, but after a few games I got a hang on the DoW2 style.

What I dislike however is that vehicle types crush everything what crosses their path. In CoH this was ok, but you had relatively larger maps and big tank couldn't wreak havoc on your map just by driving across it. When my Wraithlord walks towards the enemy I usually fear that there won't be any cover soon.

So far so good, I keep playing and posting...

The crap thing is certain aspects of each race are overpowered and underpowered to 'balance' them i.e. each individual Tyranid unit sucks but can pretty much plow through an army with spore mines and Eldar units are fragile but with a anti-grav cannon no one can touch them.
Basically any unit that causes fast suppression is unstoppable.

Well the only thing that bugs me at the moment is that the orks reach their unit limit really fast and then only max on tankbustas as far as I see. Then they bomb everything with their rockets because the ability is so low in cost. That makes them a unit against everything, which is bad.

Suppression is nice, but if you have a tactical counter the dug in unit becomes less scary. I don't know if warp spiders are any good in melee, but the spider commander can easily teleport behind them, attack them in melee and the rest of your army can approach unsuppressed. Space marines and orks have jump troops that can archieve that.
What about bugs? I only saw the flesh hooks of the lictor having an impact on dug in heavy weapons...

At the moment, games seem to be heavily unbalanced though, with one side seriously stomping the other.

Oh, and I need not only a "attack melee"-button but also a "attack range" button. Makes the difference for many units...

Lictors can cloak behind them, Raveners can burrow to get to them, and rippers cannot be suppressed when under synapse. Unfortunately I have been reading that the "balance" patches that have been coming out for the beta are full wierd or outright bad decisions. With the past history of patches for DOW being what it is, I am very worried about DOW 2.

Yea, just played a match against a Techmarine. Two Sentries and he was happily gathering Req. on my point. By then he had already slaughtered my slow as hell Nobz squad and Warboss. Training three Stormboyz squads I proceeded to jump behind him and cut him up. I failed miserably as they became suppressed as they attacked and even my 'suicide bombers' hardly even dented their turrents.

Another match I had three Nobz squads with hammers eagerly bashing through a dreadnaught and tank when a patch of spore mines flutters over. My nobz died instantly from a unit that wasn't even worth half their points.

Rambling on a bit here but, finally decided to use a MekBoy and spam turrents. As I started building several anti-grav turrents hover over me and proceed to suppress my Mekboy and demolish my turrents with their superior range.

Too cheap.

Just asking:why do people keep adding the n to turrets? I have never, ever seen or heard the word turret with an n in it.

Some other things:

- Why weapon platforms for the eldar? The shuriken cannon platforms and brightlance platforms would be cooler if they'll be replaced with dark reapers and fire dragons. Let the shuriken cannons for the base defense. Just a personal thing, though.

- Laser lances seem superfluous because the wraithlord is so much better with a bright lance. It is more expensive, but the laser lance has fixed fire arc, lower hit points etc. I thought the brightlance platform would be a real hard counter against vehicles like a harder version of the PAK in CoH.

- The Warpspider commander seems overpowered, but that may be his superior performance in my games. His range damage is nasty, his melee damage is good and his jump ability is awesome because he can choose his fights at will. My warp spider commander never died in a fight.

- Vehicles should not be harmed by small arms fire.
Hard counters should be encouraged like missle tacticals (who act funny and run in bolter range to fire their missle launcher), Lootas and brightlance platforms. I rarely see those units, because everyone just spams walkers (which is not the best solution maybe)

- I want more buildings! At the moment there are some buildings in the map but they don't have a huge tactical relevance. A map like the one in CoH with the buttload of buildings would be cool, making house raids more important.

That's it for now.

'Turrents'
A prominent typo of "turrets" in many games, particularly Infantry.
e.g. Herthbul> "rofl my nade missed all the turrents".

Never knew that, ty.

But in the end DoW 2 will probably never hope to be a fair or even multi-player game with a GOOD server finder, with their terrible patches and bad community interaction I'm placing my bets that SC 2 will win this fight for Next-Gen RTS Online Supremacy.
(DoW2 still is shiny though)

I still keep reading about those nonsensical patch changes. What may probably happen is that a group of modders out there will take the original, out of the box version (or original beta code) and mod it with small, slight tweaks at a time and come to something much better than what relic patches it up into. Over the course of DOW the Relic patches completely changed or re-changed how entire units and buildings worked, added or removed characteristic options from units, and basically threw the game in all sorts of balance directions.

We shall see, but for the moment the game is overruled by zealous SMurf players and 'cheaty' Eldar.

Why are the Eldar considered cheaty? I only noticed that many players seem to play them (which is often a bad sign balanceing wise).

Amen, the "balance" patches were a mess. I'm thinking about the balancing of the defilers for example which made them completely über. Even GWs pendulum doesn't swing that bad.

The dumbing down after the Winter Assault expansion was irritating, too. For example, Dark reapers lost their balls because fire warriors (or Tau as a whole) should be the shooty race.

I hear that Assault marines basically destroy everything themselves, even fexes if they are paired with an apothecary.

It's all about the synergy. My Banshees weren't bad against an Avatar, too. I was quite suprised because my enemy bragged about how his Avatar would destroy everything and the squad leeched half of his health before they had tp retreat.

Many people think that the tier 3 units will kill everything on sight, the opposite is true. They are strong, but expensive and don't work without support like any other units as far as I've experienced.

Doubt it Railguns...

Yea Schepp, agree with ya there. Had a squad of Nobz with Hammerz and they proceeded to own two enemy tanks that came in - then they were gunned down by and Eldar Shuriken Canon.
In a way making Tier 3 so cheap but balancing it out with weaker units was Relic's way of 'balancing' the game.

I played all the factions last night against an easy AI for no other reason to get a feel of the game. My initial thoughts are:

-I relieze that the the base building is supposed to be low, but overall I think there needs to be some sort of way to deploy static defenses. I can just sit a tank at choke points, but I think that's kind of stupid (though it reflects the table top game very well).
-A lot of units seem to move slower than they should.
-Lack of strategic zoom shows lack of moving forward in tech.
-The squad sizes are smaller than I would like.
-I can't figure out how to change weapon load outs once I've built one special weapon.
-How to reinforce units in some armies isn't easy to figure out.
-Number of units available seems small, though this could be a function of the game time.
-The mechanics system looks good for a single player campaign, but I don't like it for multiplayer. Build order and forced expansion are mechanics I absolutely hate.

Overall, I'll give it some more play time before I decide if I will buy it or not. As of now, I'm on the fence.

Ok, is there a secret eldar cheat for infinite warp storms? Because i was playing, we were winning, Ork, SM and Nid. We are running around keeping everything under control, we are winning by probobly 300 points. Then warpstorm, ok, we can do stuff against that. Send guys in to fill the gap, THOSE guys get warp stormed, not twenty second after the first one, how does that work!! by the end of the match i stopped counting at 7 warp storms, i don't know how he did it but it is very annoying, we would have won.

OH and P.S.
Use raveners, fill the tunnels with gaunts and make a tunnel behind suppression squad --> release tunnel.

SM - 8060 pts
Chaos Deamons - 885 pts
Chaos Marines - 500pts

Yea, the gaunts are going to be there but by then the Eldar would have Fleet Footed to their base and send in their Wraithlord. You can try taking it down, but then they'd just Suppress you again. The game is too cheap.

The game is up on Steam as of... a few hours ago. I grabbed it, it's certainly a very pretty game (at least at high resolutions; I'm able to run it on Ultra settings at 1920x1200). Only had time to get a few single-player campaign games in and to do a single skirmish against the CPU (I'd played the beta a little but wasn't sure if there was more available in the full release).

I'm still going to have to spend quite a bit of time getting used to the SMALL army sizes that the game is going to have compared to DOW1.

Feel free to friend me up via Live, my gamertag's JasonMurphy. I'm an extremely casual player when it comes to RTT games, so if you're worried about going online and just getting trounced by "pro" players, I'd probably be safe.

A agree, it's worth the price of admission just for the RPG style campaign. I'm about 1.5 hours in and loving it.

I brain dumped my initial impressions of the game here:

I got the game last night..had countless amounts of problems getting the game to work.

First when I started the game the screen said 'unsupported resolution' (a common error for people using HD TVs as PC monitors). Had to edit some .LUA file to fix that.

Next, the game would freeze 3 seconds into the THQ intro. For that I had to install some Nvidia drivers..so maybe blame me for that one.

Now I finally got it running, but it runs incredibly slow. I'm at work now, but I found some download for AMD dual core systems that are having trouble so i'll give that a try tonight.

...really hoping it works. I really want to give this game a go.

edit: Got it working...and absolutely love it. I could barely get myself out of the game long enough to post here about it.
