well sorm of iron is very good

It really was. And I was looking forward to more IW hotness. But then they dumbed the characters down in order to make uriel ventris "hurr" way awesome in his 4th (??) book.
Sad story, honestly

I don't know if you'd consider it a starring role, but Necrons feature heavily in at least one BL novel. That would be Nightbringer by Graham McNeill. This is the first of the Uriel Ventris' Ultramarine 4th Company novels.

I've not read the Cain or Gaunt novels (not a big guard fan), but the Eisenhorn trilogy by Dan Abnett is a great series. The aforementioned Ultramarine novels (at least the first two) are pretty good as well.

And I just bought Mechanicum, the 9th book in the Horus Heresy series 2 hours ago. That's a good series about a pivotal time in the 40K universe. The first trilogy is superb, after that they're a little hit and miss, with Descent of Angels in particular being pretty poor.

Thanks, by starring I just meant that they were part of the story so that sounds like it'd do just fine

Are there any BL novels that feature the Salamanders or successors thereof?

The WB series is alright too.

There will be a Salamander series, by Nick Kyme. There's an initial/introductpry short in the forthcoming Space Marine anthology.

This is, in theory, a trilogy, if sales etc are good,

Rolls out in September this year.

heroes of the Space Marines--the short collection--is May.

I guess my BL buying is going up to two series's this year. 3 if I can find a copy of Nagash the Sorceror at my local Barnes & Noble.

How do the first three Time of Legends books (Heldenhammer, Nagash The Sorcerer & Malekith, IIRC) compare to the first three Horus Heresy books (Horus Rising, False Gods & Galaxy In Flames) quality-wise? I realize that there isn't a continuous narrative in the Time of Legends series and that kind of puts me off.

From what I understand each Time of Legends arc has several books, so Siggy and co will each get their own trilogy if I remember correctly. The second Sigmar book Empire will be released September 2009 while the second Nagash book is released early 2010.

Did not realize that Brook M. I guess I'll wait for the Nagash trilogy to be out before buying.
