Let's be honest, most of the people with an opinion on the WC has that opinion based more on rumor, innuendo, misunderstanding or just pure nerd rage than actual experience or fact. The WC guys know that, so rather than try to convince people with an irrational dislike of them that they're ok guys, they focus instead on people with either a rational dislike or simply no strong opinion. By showing that they're fun guys and don't take themselves too seriously, they put a bit of a hole in their image as bloodthirsty conquerors. Additionally, it helps make the irrational haters seem even more irrational, as now they're teeing off on a post RTT photo, of all things.

I dunno, at the end of the day it seems that the worst the WC guys get tagged with is that some of them are jerks. Guess what? This is Dakka, where we all are jerks. This hobby, the internet, heck life itself is crammed with jerks. Really, when we call somebody a jerk, we're mostly saying "that person ignores a set of societal mores that I hold dearly, while the people that respect the mores that I choose to violate are obviously wrong."

That's a part of it, I think another big part is that 40k attracts a lot of people that weren't sitting at the cool table in the lunch room. To find out, even in this geeky part of the world, that there is a group of people that's cooler than you is a psychic blow. Rather than simply accept that, there's a kneejerk reaction to either cut down that group, or try to invalidate it.

Edit: I'm not defending these guys, for all I know they really do all the horrible things of which they are accused, but I know nerd rage when I see it.

You guys do know that the HK91/cetme G3 are legal in the US to anyone without a felony don't you?

I thoguht the stupid "Assault Weapon" (i.e. "scary-looking gun") ban expired.

It did but regardless if you already have one it is grandfathered in so /shrugs. As fat as I look in that picture I would have made me for a cop

The point of the pic is that I really really love that G3. It cost a great deal of money and looks absolutely beautiful. I mean seriously you cant say that rifle isn't awe inspiring in the pic can you? That is the finest in German engineering. I mean its made by germans and you know they always make great stuff. (thanks vince!)

If the pic somehow made you uncomfortable or what not I do apologize, I guess I didn't think me posting a pic of my rifle would offend anyone in a thread that already has a pic of another much larger and almost as awesome rifle.

I didn't like the pictures of either guns to be honest... They don't fit in with the discussion. It's not a big deal but I got the impression you might have been trying to make some kind of point with the picture. No harm done, apparently you just love your rifle.

G3s are pretty awesome... I dig that pic way more than the first pic of the thread What "point' would he be trying to make with the pic GBF? Actually, I understand what you're saying, but to assume that someone is trying to intimidate just because they have a picture of themselves firing a weapon just means that you've bought into the fear-mongering aura that the media surrounds firearms ownership with.
