Agreed. Tom Cruise's role in Tropic Thunder was so ridiculously out of character for him that it was awesome. At least one example where he stops taking himself so seriously.

The scene where Salma Hayek shows her "extras". It wasn't bad per se but it haunted me for a long time.

Honestly,it was'nt until the end of Tropic Thunder that I even relized I was watching Cruise in it...that's how out of character he was...well that or I need glasses.

Exactly, In my case not only was I stunned that It actuly was Tom Cruise...it cost me money as well.
Me: " That guy looks familar."
Gf: " He should,It's Tom Cruise."
Me: " No  Way!"
Gf: " Ten dollars say's it is Cruise"

Me : " Holy it is Tom Crise!!"
