True, but the three Hydras together cost about as much as one of those plasma cannon Russes do and will likely kill far more than that single Russ would. The trio are also more useful against horde orcs that spread out to avoid blasts, skimmers, and light vehicles.

Alright, so we're on a daemons vs. IG hypothetical now. Are we settled on whether they can stack? I still don't know.

It's a "clarify pre game and argue about it then" situation. Until we get Errata. 1/9001 odds Jesus returns before GW issues an Errata in a timely manner.

I cannot believe there is a non-trolling rules debate going on here. Two -1 modifiers are a -2 modifier. This is simple math. A "5" subjected to a -2 modifier is not a "4."
Look at the interaction between your Fleet Officer and an enemy Astropath. A -1 modifier and a +1 modifier cancel each other out. You don't enter a crazy world where the "4" you rolled is simultaneously a "5" and a "3."
Math stacks.

The problem is, as we have said. It does not say the effects are cumulative, nor does it say they are not. The wording IS ambiguous enough to read it either way.

It will definitely not be errata'd. Maybe a FAQ will give guidance in a few months though. Until then I'll assume they stack but it may get house ruled otherwise.
|
In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

I think it shouldn't stack, because even among the utter brokenness of the codex, totally fething over daemons for 60 points is just wrong

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick, but unless you can point to a specific rule preventing math from stacking (as is the case with the rule against multiple re-rolls) I think it's impossible to argue that math is not cumulative. Here, check this out:
Mary has five apples in an open-topped basket. That basket suffers a penetrating hit from a multi-melta. How much does Mary add to her roll on the vehicle damage table?

math doesn't mean anything if the wording can apply that math in different ways.
Math says I subtract one, so I subtract one, which makes both officers happy because I have subtracted one. End result: I subtract a total of 1 for my reserves, but I have to kill 2 Models to remove it.

Agreed... So I'm replying to this underneath another page of speculations. I guess the answer is a definite 'no' to whether it's settled. Oh well.

Math stacks.
Save your breath bud you wont win.
-1 + -1 = -2
Not
-1 + -1 = -1
But I guess in some version of 40k if you have two characters that each give a -1, only one -1 will count no matter how many you take.

Lol Nice one. You are actually insulting someone who agrees with you. And reread the rule. It doesn't say "each officer gives -1 to reserve roles" it says "as long as the Officer is alive, subtract ONE from the roll". So even if they are two, subtracting one from the dice satisfies both officers rule.

Omg that's like so ruuude! I'm telling!!!!
@jp400: I mean no offence, but what we adults are having here is called a "debate". it is where two sides explain their views and arguments, and then attempt to try and convince the other side that theirs is correct. If one side wins, happy days for all! If both sides fail to agree, it is what we call a deadlock, and we charge the beer to the taxpayer.
