halonachos wrote:Yes, I've seen a burqa and I've seen a burqa clad woman show up in my elementary school(recent immigrants and her daughter was in my class) and I will tell you that it was very unnerving.
And that's cool. Seeing something you haven't seen before can be a little unsettling. It becomes an issue when you let that initial fear entirely control how you view that thing. So that instead of talking to a person and finding out about them, you start inventing justifications to make them conform, such as third parties potentially robbing banks.
Another thing is this, it is impossible to tell who is underneath a burqa as their purpose is to obscure the shape of the person within, so men can wear a burqa to flee after committing a crime(some taliban men wear them after attacking troops/police and drop their weapons).
They can't conceal size, height, breadth across the shoulders and similar are all still obvious. If a bikie put on a burqa to rob a bank it would be obvious he was a bikie in a burqa. Only know he'd have no peripheral vision, no access to pockets or places to conceal weapons, and running away wouldn't be as simple.
Here's the thing, if you move to a foreign country you should adapt to their culture. When in public you should act like the adopting country. In your own home you can practice your older culture.
That, more or less, has been the idea behind French immigration for a long time. It hasn't been the idea in the US, where the idea has been for the melting pot and sometimes the patchwork models. When you remember the US has had a lot more immigration than France, then compare the problems of intergration in France and the US, I think it's pretty clear the US model (while certainly not perfect) works a lot more of the time.
And besides all that, I like the idea that we aren't all the same, that there isn't a force to stop people being different. I don't agree with the ideas behind the burqa, but I disagree with the ideas behind forcing women to take them off even more. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ahtman wrote:Well duh, but than I never said that it was the best way to kill the most people now did I? Not every tactic is designed to kill the most people. Destroy one of the largest producers of grain that is used to supply more than just the US and it will cause problems. It would also make that area unable to produce grain for a long, long time.
Somewhere along the line you seem to have decided to add "will kill the most people" and "is absolutely the best idea" to what I posted, of which I posted neither, so if you could respond to what I actually posted and not what you seem to think I posted that would be great.
If we're talking about deliberate attacks I would have thought the ones most worth considering are the ones that best meet the enemy's objectives (whoever the enemy is in this case). I would have thought that 'will kill the most people' would be a priority and so I made that assumption. Obviously you think differently.
At this point I don't even know why we're talking about blowing up Kansas. Automatically Appended Next Post: generalgrog wrote:This whole idea is stupid. The moment they made it illegal to wear a Burka, you immediately make 1,000's of people criminals. The burka weaers would continue to wear the burkas anyway out of protest and then if the police actually arrested or gave citations, there would be an uproar from society about the police taking away burka wearers civil rights to wear burkas.
It's not going anywhere gentlemen.
GG
If you outlaw burqas then only outlaws will wear burqas.

Wait a second chromedog, halonachas may be on to something.
However I love it that in London, muslims can protest about being anti-jews, (it was meant to be a Peacful Religeons March, yet alot of troublemaking riff-raff showed up), with signs saying 'Death to those who insult Islam', yet if a simmilar march (yet anti-muslim) was to occur in say, Tehran or Baghdad, you'd be dead meat.
It is important to always uphold freedom of speech. The problem would begin only if these particular crackpots do something and stop talking.

One of those is a warzone and the other gets those kinds of rallies all the time. Tehran gets quite a few anti extremist and pro rights demonstrations, though it gets a lot of death to america too.
