I agree though, it does seem kind of silly.

I dunno, I kind of like the viewport featured on page one of this thread (the top set of 4 pictures).

I realize viewports aren't a great idea for tanks, but in the wonky future of 40k it just....works. Hell, most of the imperial tanks have sponson mounted weapons-- but anyone can tell you that they grew out of favor during the world wars when infantry sacrificed themselves to lob a grenade into them!

Efficient? probably not. Cool looking? Hell yeah!

I always saw viewports as a last ditch effort if your camera dies, and its not like its made of seran wrap, Im sure it some super high ultra dense transparent material.

*We know their ships are often hundreds of years old. We do not have the ability to maintain working machinery lasting several hundred years.

*The Leman is a model manufactured in mass quantity predomintantly because of its ease of manufacture ease of maintenance. Its stated different worlds have more advanced items, bu the Leman is cheap and easy. Its the T-34 of the Imperium, as the las gun is its AK-47.

*We don't know about many aspects of their technology. But we've heard mention of the use of holy unguents for maintenance (gag I hate that word) seemingly thousands of times. I swear they have holy unguents on the brain.

Also, the design of most 40K vehicles is based on WW1 and WW2 stuff with some more modern shape designs thrown in. So vision slits are perfectly in keeping with that aesthetic. It also makes some sense with how the current rules work with vehicles in assault (IE very fragile).

Keep in mind that firing in vision slits didn't work to well with alot of WW2 tanks due to thick bulletproof glass. But visibility was extremely limited from such optics and crews would need to expose themselves from top hatches to get a good view. Hence the importance of good radio communications and why tankers hated dense urban fighting (where it was easy for infantry with AT to get close, set traps, fire on weaker top armor, etc.)!

will it be able to fit over the mrk 2 rhino fronts without having to remove either the shutter or the front plate?as it will be shame to have to tear them off

These will be "replacement" front pieces, they will be in place of the originals, so you will have to "tear" them out, sorry!

The funny part is, we make most of this stuff because we want it for our armies.

With all the time and management involved with production we barely have time to assemble much less paint the new parts onto our models

That there looks like a scratch-build with modern rhino tracks. It's pretty sweet looking, as well.

I wonder if Chapterhouse could go off of an idea sorta like that?

think chapterhouse are making a mk1 rhino conversion kit like that

They are??? well I would like to see how/if that would fit with the Predator front that they're making along with the turret. Maybe itll get to busy but you never know...right?
