Ottawa is a relatively large canadian city, of approximately 1,000,000 people. however, it has a large greenbelt which has caused significant urban sprawl. The highway that runs through town is the queensway. Moose meat is moose meat. Beaver tails are not beaver tails. Rather, they're basically thin cinammon-sugar coated doughnuts (like italian thin-crust pizza thickness, and approximately half as large as a self one would be)
oh, OC transpo (bus service and ONE train) SUCKS. If I were you I'd rent a car. Deadlock is usually not too bad, but is sometimes an issue. this usually happens moreso on holidays and in the winter though. Don't expect to see many places selling moose meat, though they might sell it at some butcher shops or Deli's. That's about all I can tell you on those subjects.

Yeah, I was going to say about the beaver tails, as I thought they are endangered. They sound delicious! Renting a car might be a problem though, depending on how lax Canadian road laws are. |D
Thanks, CaptainCommunsism!

@Shinigami: Remember... in Canada, the steering wheel is on the left side of the car and you drive on the RIGHT side of the road.

Thanks for the concern, but when I said I hope the driving laws are lax that was a joke. I doubt Canadians let 16 year olds with no licence rent cars. |D Thanks though, I thought Canada did it like us and only the Americans did it backwards.

actually, in order to rent a car in canada (I THINK, this might only apply to the states...) you need to be 25 and have a full drivers license. Where abouts are you going to be staying in Ottawa? (just curious)

Okay, here's a quick note about Canada, as I read you are only 16 years old. There are 3 fun big cities in Canada: Vancouver, Montreal.... and *groan* Toronto. Ottawa is a government town & dead boring. Quebec is right next door to Ontario, and has a lower drinking age and a much more relaxed view of those laws (a few french courtesy words like "merci" go a long way when visiting there).
A word on food: A beaver tail is a kind of doughnut, and the best doughnuts are at Tim Hortons. You are going to be visiting when moose is in season (I only know that cause I was born in a small northern town) so if you want to try some exotic game meat, you'll have a good opportunity to do so. Like all meat, the fresher it is, the better it tastes.
I hope you enjoy your stay, and please, please come back when you're old enough to have some beers & we'll take you out to a hockey game & show you how it's done.

I literally just got back from Heathrow, and I had a great time. Thanks for all the suggestions and tips, I tried to cram in as many as I could. CaptainCommunsism, I was staying in the Orleans bit, and you're right about the moose meat, I couldn't find it anywhere, despite looking in Meat shops. That's on the list of things I didn't do.
In terms of things I did do, I tried all the other suggested food, Poutine is nicer than 'chips, gravy and cheese curds' sounds, the crazy pudding was chewy yet flavoursome, and assorted multicultural food is some of the best I've tasted. I also had a Tim Hortons Ice Cap, a DQ blizzard and spicy chicken wings, which all are apparently typical Canadian fare.
You were all spot on about the trees, the abundant greenery is unusual and exciting but trees are trees. Animals; racoons, black squirrels, groundhogs and chipmunks are all cute and plentiful, and the occasional beaver was cool too.
I have more to say but jetlag is getting in the way.
