It was sanguinius with the ability of foresight, not the emperor. The emperor was utterly human; he saw the powers of the warp, knew they were a threat, he thought he had everything under control, but he didn't. His biggest failing was that he beleived humanity to be infallible. He was charismatic, powerful, and brilliant, but still just a man. It's the reason he couldn't beat Russ in a drinking and eating competition, and the reason Vulkan was a better hunter. Who knows what would happen if Sanguinius would've fought him though.... It probably have destroyed Baal. And Baal secundus.
Russ and Sanguinius tag-team would totally pwn everything, btw.

@Cheese: From the fluff I've seen. It actually doesn't say that, it mentions in the history of the Luna Hounds (pre-heresy) that Horus chopped off the arm of an ork that was trying to strangle the Emprah (unless this is something I haven't seen in the Horus Heresy novels).

Well, if history is anything to go by you don't have to be Japanese to love anime, but it sure as hell helps...
@crazypsyko666: Actually, Emperor and Vulkan were roughly evenly matched EXCEPT when it came to hunting. The Emprah hunted down the bigger firedrake, Vulkan himself admits it. But the emperor chucked its corpse into the lava flow to save Vulkan or something.

New to the thread - coming out with my hands up.
I always thought the Emperor was like a Jesus figure with a black belt in Ninjitsu and SAS training. A lot of the Emperor's story is based on the story of Jesus - being betrayed, wanting to unite humanity, etc, etc. And even the resultant church of the Emperor is a Sci-Fi version of the Roman Catholic Religion of the middle ages. BUT, he kicked total non-human ass. Jesus in Terminator armour with a back banner that says "EGO SVM NON LIGNARIVS" maybe with "CONSVME PLVMBVM" underneath.

I don't think that the Emperor is anything but superficially similar to Jesus, i.e., they are both thought of as divine and benevolent. The Horus Heresy is really nothing like the betrayal of Judas either--except that they were both betrayals. As for the Ecclesiarchy, that's just latent Anglican anti-Catholicism kicking in--same mindset that dreamed up the Black Legend (no wonder 40k has an Inquisition) and forgot about the English martyrs. The Emperor is more like a sci-fi Conan of Cimmeria or, more accurately, Kull of Atlantis.

True, but it is pointed out in the Inquistor Specialist Game that even IF the Emprah came back, mankind would be divided as to whether he was the real thing or whether he was an impostor. Certainly the Emprah would start a ruckus with the Eclessiarchy over him being a god.
But I do think it is his wish.
...If he was certain that he would be reborn.

Maybe another Imperial schism is the next step in the 40K world for GW? EMPRAH: JUDGMENT DAY. The Emperor returns to Terra and unleashes the warp on all the soft-ass ecclesiarchs.
The only thing I dread is the fielding of the Emperor in an Ultra Marine army for 1000 pts. It'd be a sick, sick, terminal ill, sick game breaker for sure.

Hmmm... If the Emperor is prophesied to be reborn as soon as he dies, then how does that fit in with Russ' drunken quest of revival? And does anyone know where Russ went, exactly? Was it the Warp? That seems to be a common destination for people who need to go missing in 40k canon.
