Another great thread!!! Definitely go with the 2nd bases. The sand was ok, but I think the size of the grains were too large to use for bases; the theme of searching the deserts worked fine, but I would recommend using sand such as playground sand. I don't know how accessible something like this is in Japan, but it is pretty common to find in stores like Home Depot.
