Yeah, it would vary according to the sophistication of the world, and how efficient/complacent its governor is concerning military matters. Perhaps IG-level, 'modern' forces, i.e. with chimeras, leman russes etc are the most common form, or would they be the ideal PDF, most planets having a lower standard. We know that some planets (Armageddon, Mordian, Cadia) have crack-IG level PDFs.

I think that all the logistics support for the IG is handled by the departmento munitorum, who are civilians. Dunno exactly what jobs that equates to though. Logistics on an inter-solar scale would be a nightmare, especially since warp-travel is supposed to be so unreliable.

karimabuseer, I believe both those books are about CSMs right? Remember that those are superhuman troops specifically made to break regular human armies.

This is what I like to call the Point Imbalance; in a real game, the battle for Tanakreg wasn't balanced in points. A token force of PDF versus an entire warband of Chaos Marines would represent a huge points advantage to the warriors of the Dark Gods. If it had been balanced the PDF would have had a lot more heavy weapons and armour support.

True, but if we're going to talk points-wise then the Tyranids outnumber us 3 billion to 1 POINTS-WISE.
