It's the way you made the statement. You come across(to me at least) as if there's some great injustice being done when your works are being criticized by the teeming masses of GW's Fan Legions.
I will give you that yes, a few of the replies were far too blunt and rude... but that's how criticism works. Some people are absolutely terrible at sugarcoating things, while others will tell you absolutely nothing useful whatsoever other than "it looks neat".
How the hell does that help you improve your product or talents? That's like the "A for Effort" system.
Erm... huh? I had absolutely no problems with the criticism. When I referred to the
GW slant of the boards, I was merely saying that if I labelled this as "Generic Battlesuit", then it would not have gotten half as many comments or criticisms that it's got now (constructive or otherwise). All boards have their own gakkers, and a couple seem to have cropped up in this thread, but by and large most of the people who have replied have given very useful feedback on what is wrong and how I could change it. Of course I am not going to take all of it on board as that excellent way of making things worse, but a number of suggestions have been very helpful, especially comments regarding the chest, and Fafnir's suggestion that I add a spine-like detailing to the waist.
You have completely misunderstood the nature of my comment for some reason, and I would suggest to you again to take it to
PMs if you still feel so strongly about my saying that
GW and
GW-related topics are more popular on a
GW-centric board. I love criticism as it usually makes it easier for me to improve my technique (rather than me spotting the problem and slowly squeezing my brains to figure out a solution) and I am hardly one to be annoyed if some people are quite blunt about their criticism.
tl:dr I suggested this as a potential Tau battlesuit alternative as it was more likely to generate interest, as prior my experience has been that topics completely divorced from
GW tend to receive less attention, which is perfectly understandable on Dakka.
@Qualude
There are panel lines running along the sides of the torso and thighs which mark where the suit splits for the pilot to get in or out. And as I've said before, the level of detail is pretty much set like this because I like to keep my sculpts free of clutter. The chest is a big blank area that I am addressing with a quick resculpt, but I am pretty happy with the detail elsewhere. One other area I am ever so slightly unhappy with is the upper arm, but I've not been able to figure out a way of detailing it which does not mess up the poseability.
