An old SM bike (all metal) that somebody found in the back storage. After about 4 months one of the gamers did some investigating on the lad. We found out his family was on hard times. A couple of us went to his house while he was out (at school, I hope). We talked to his mom for a minute just to be sure she wasnt a crazy anti-game nut or something. After collecting from the regulars and a good bit form the store, we got him a SM megaforce with all the extras. Paint, brushes, an extra squad, various metal singles, codex, all the Black Library books we already read, and a button-down workshirt that said "(game store name) TOURNEMENT TEAM" with his name stitched on the front. We hid it all in the bcak with a "HAPPY GAMING MIKE" banner up and just went about our Saturday. He showed up and just sat and watched again. We finaly told him to go in the back and grab a soda, or whatever. The scream that came out of that back room was priceless. He just sat there staring at the table full of swag. We ended up ordering a couple pizzas and just kicking it as he flipped through his new army, wrapped in his new gamer shirt (it was a little big on a 12 year old. I dont think he minded though.). He didnt want to get a ride home because he thought his mom would get mad if he got in a car (good lad). We used a guys truck to tote it all down to his place. His mom was in tears. It was the sweetest thing ever. Hugging us and telling us "thank you". He was there the next week. Sitting so proud with HIS army ( Ultramarines) in front of him.

Not quite as expensive as Cpt Gate, but a few of my buddies pooled some old Battletech minis together for a kid. He had watched us play regularly and though it was cool, so we gave him a few spares from stuff we had.
He only played a few times with us, but that kid could paint pretty well. Only person I've ever met named Eddie, too.

Cpt Gate, will you be my new best friend? That was just amazing.
On topic though, I once walked into my FLGS to buy some paints, only to see one of the staff walking around the store wearing a top hat and carrying a Littlest petshop Butterfly soft toy. It took a few moments to sink in.

Cpt Gate, I have tears in my eyes. What a tale! I want to spread love like that man.
Also I LMAO at the invisible slow-motion assassin game. Me and my buddies play 'slow-motion invisible gunfight' quite a lot; it starts with pulling an invisible pistol out of your waistband, then escalates to assault rifles, twin uzis, hand grenades (that's a fun one) etc.
It always peaks with a Chuck Norris style invisible throwing knife to the head.
Invisible slo-mo games FTW.

Normal day at my local FLGS, when some shouting starts at the register. Some guy was arguing(sp?) With the manager saying the were outragious, and not in a good way. The manager told him he didn't HAVE to buy anything, the dude thought the manager was trying to be a smart a' so the dude punched the manager in the face. Everyone was awstruck. Then some kid, around 15 runs up, kicks him in between the legs shouting "For The Manager!!!". Sounds odly familier...

I was in the middle of painting and ran out of a much needed pot, so ran to the gaming store and got there 10 mins before they opened. And one of the staff had a car in the parking lot already, wait until about til 5 after, was listening to some Slayer in the car as it is.
So I go up and knock on the door and see one of the managers climb up off the pool table they have near the door and come over and open the door.
And promptly puke on the side walk infront of the store.
The staff had an all night drinking party and the manager was put to bed on the pool table at about 3 am and they opened at noon, by the owner. Another employee was cuddled up on the floor next to a 4 ft tall pikachu.

Here's one from a long time past. Was at FLGS for a tourny, I was playing my [army name deleted]. When the first round bracket were posted found myself facing Spacewolves with Ragnar... Won, barely.
Round 2 Different player, Identical Army. I won easily.
Round 3, faced the only female in the tourny and her Eldar. Got SMOKED. She wound up winning the whole thing, not due to guys being, well.. guys, but because she played very well and was decent about it. She even told me where I made mistakes in our game.

Cpt. Gate, that's an awesome story, nice to see something positive for a change. I tend to try and help the staff if it's busy- over Christmas there was a lot of kids just starting the hobby, and the staff were getting overwhelmed by kids bombarding them with rules questions, so I figured I'd give them a hand for a while, seeing as the (lone) staff member in the store is a decent guy and was getting totally swamped. Nothing compared to what you did for the kid, but I try and help where I can.
Anyway:
Over the last few weeks, loads of SM minis (painted store ones) have been going missing from my local GW. When I asked the staff about it (while painting some of my stuff up), they said they thought there was a 'black market' of sorts in the bunker at the back of the shop. By law, the shop has to keep the fire exit easily accessible, and it sounded like the kids were swiping the SM models off the display tables at the front of the store, going into the battle bunker to 'battle friends', and start selling the stolen figures right outside the back of the store. We're talking 12-15 year old kids here, crazy

Nothing can compare to CPT Gate's story (kudos brother...or sister?) but here's my go...
At the old shop there was a guy who would frequent it to play WoW. Now this fellow was a bit of a....hm...dirtbag (only because I can't swear here) who decided that playing WoW and hitting on the couple of high school girls who played magic there was more important than paying child support - keep in mind hes in his late 20's. So someone at the shop called the police and ratted him out. As soon as the police showed up he bolted for the side door...that was always locked. The sight of him slamming into the glass was priceless.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.
