The wife might object and 1) she's heavily armed; and 2) I taught her how to shoot.

Americans think our accent sounds snobby and condescending, whilst many Brits think American accents sound a little...thick. Sorry, couldn't find a nice way to put that, and it certainly isn't true (in either case), but it's a matter of perception, not fact. 'Two nations divided by a common language', and all that.
Your point about American accents is, I admit, pretty well true. But I don't think a British accent sounds snobby at all. Doesn't bother me at all on a fellow. I just think it's a turn off on a girl. My original thought was "why do I think that about British accents but think Ozzy girls sound cute?" I guess that's just me assuming Commonwealth and British accents have more in common than they actually do.

Actually when an English guy is talking to me I have difficulty understanding them about half the time. Scot, forget it.

Written yes but the accents I've run into-what?

Oh i didn't say I sometimes have difficulty with accents form the states. But there's something about English accents (not scot/Irish or other countries). There are some Very localized (from what I understand) accents that just make me go what?

Many of the accents in Snatch and Welsh accents for example.

Yeah, British accents are a weird one. Take Newcastle and Middlesbrough, the two places whatwhat (I was only kidding about with the 'tosser' thing mate. Sort of. )and I come from, respectively, for example. The two accents sound drastically different from each other, but Newcastle is only about 40 minutes drive from Middlesbrough, if that. How about the difference between Manchester and Liverpool? They are even closer, but there's no way you could ever mistake one for the other.

And has NO-ONE seen 'Chopper'? - It's Eric Bana's best film.

It's a great movie. Like Sexy Beast it's one of those rare movies that's you can watch as a serious movie, then get drunk and rewatch for all the funny lines.

Anyhow, happy Australia Day for yesterday, everyone!

Speaking of 'Chopper', the real Mark 'Chopper' Read hasn't got more than a few years to live. He got Hepatitis C from a bloody razor blade in prison and turned down a liver transplant that could have saved him.

Shows you how people can change.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Yes. That liver transplant could have turned him into a super liver-monster! Or something...

...I'm sorry what was you point again?

That he doesn't want a liver transplant? I wouldn't let him outta prison for that.

But yes, I see your point. Of course, 'sick of prison/life' doesn't always = 'pentient'

Maybe 'penitent' was the wrong word, but he's certainly lived in painful regret for many years now, like he actually realises the extent of his crimes and the damage he's caused to other people's lives.

I'm not saying that he could ever be forgiven for his crimes, however.

Odd, pic was working for me. I'm from Milton-under-Wychwood,one of the many little Cotswold villages in Oxfordshire, but the picture was of the dreaming spires of Oxford itself.

If you like them you should look into Luke Steele's earlier work The Sleepy Jackson. It's better, to be blunt about it.

Nice pic, by the way.

@sebster - Yeah, I've heard a few bits and bobs - kind of like an Australian Super Furry Animals... pretty cool, but I prefer what I've heard of Empire Of The Sun, to be honest... I'll check them out some more.
