The president also does not occupy the place of superman. Just a thought...
Compared to Bush Jr, Obama is the greatest freaking orator of all time, due to Bush Jr's lack of a flexible jaw. I have to say that I am not displeased at this point with President Obama, I am definitely pissed off at the senate though.

I read the whole suicide manifesto and I felt for the guy. It sounded like he had been pushed to the edge of despair by circumstances, then just enough farther to fall off the edge.
OTOH when he decided to relocate from California to Texas, maybe he should have researched the engineering job market beforehand, instead of assuming it was going to be great.
We only heard his side of the story. On the basis of his lack of good sense in the job move, I suspect he did some other silly things which contributed to the trouble he got into.
Still, a sad story for everyone.

The note was interesting. A lot of it (aside from the healthcare bits) read a great deal like a lot of Libertarian rhetoric I remember from the 80s when my family was heavily involved in the party.
I agree that the note arouses some sympathy, but remember that this is his perspective. It does seem like he made a lot of bad financial decisions, particularly in regards to what sounds like trying to set up as a religious nonprofit for tax purposes.
And the minute he set his house on fire with his family in it, he lost any call to any moral high ground. He must have been suffering from some mental illness, but that doesn’t make the behavior any less awful.

^This I relocated from California to Colorado and found out when I got there, there was virtually no software industry. I was screwed, pissed, and angry about my mistake. What did I do? I moved back to Cali, kept job hunting until I found an awesome job, and now I am salary and have a nice home for my family. No plane required, but warning: Taking the bus from CA to CO is a 30 hour trip... Especially with an infant Like I said earlier, and echoing KK, I feel for the guy. The note, AS IS, paints a very sad picture I can relate with. ON THE OTHER HAND, I agree with Dogma, KK and Wrex et al that the note is by no means the whole story. There is always a causal event when something unexpected happens... Always. Even if it may be unknown to us at the time... The thing I cannot wrap my head around is the fact that he tried to make his family pay for his mistakes too by burnt his house down, and then he drove a freaking plane into a building. Gak, do what I do: Call up government agency screwing with you and belligerently yell at people about your problem. The worst thing they can do is hang up, and you might actually luck out and get a compassionate person who will help you. But I have a feeling that this guy did a pretty good job at screwing himself initially. I do feel the IRS did feth with him unjustly, but only after he fethed up first (we still don't know how) and tried to go legit. Kinda like crying wolf, I guess...

Saw the building last night. You can see where the plane hit the concrete before hitting the building itself. The building's pretty messed up. Automatically Appended Next Post: Looks like the daughter is a nutjob as well.
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/joe-stacks-daughter-samantha-bell-calls-dad-hero/story?id=9903329
The daughter of the man who carried out a suicide plane attack against the IRS in Texas said she considered her father a hero for standing up to "the system" but said the attack that killed a government worker and injured 12 was "inappropriate" and "wrong."
Joe Stack's daughter says father's act was "inappropriate" but understandable.
More Photos"His last actions, the suicide, the catastrophe that caused injuries and death, that was wrong," Samantha Bell, Stack's daughter from his first marriage, told "Good Morning America" in a morning television exclusive telephone interview that aired today. "But if nobody comes out and speaks up on behalf of injustice, then nothing will ever be accomplished. But I do not agree with his last action with what he did. But I do agree about the government."
When "Good Morning America" asked if she considered her father a "hero," Bell, 38, said, "Yes, because now maybe people will listen."

When you act outside the law, you are the true un American. It's crazy how a person can do th same thing a terrorist does and be called a hero. Taxes are lower this year, but nobody cares. Lets blame the government and kill innocent people. Yes people who work for the government are innocent. they have families. I hated Bush and spat on the trickle down, deregulation mess republicans caused (IMHO). Never once did I speak of a bloody coup, or leaving the Union, or calling somebody Un-american. And now this, to condone murder for political gain, goes against everything America stands for. This country is the greatest in the world (IMHO) we live in freedoms people only dream of and waste more the most people will ever see. If you don't like the way things are here and you don't have the backbone to fight the right way, get the hell out, don't murder people.

Sounds more like a daughter trying to grant her father some semblance of dignity.
When "Good Morning America" asked if she considered her father a "hero," Bell, 38, said, "Yes, because now maybe people will listen." Bell later called "Good Morning America" to retract her statement and say unequivocally that her father was "not a hero."
Rather, she said the only hero involved in the attack was its victim, Vietnam veteran Vernon Hunter, the only person besides Stack killed in the attack.
"I don't want to hurt anybody," Bell said. "We are mourning for Vernon Hunter."
"His last actions, the suicide, the catastrophe that caused injuries and death, that was wrong," Bell said in the aired interview. "But if nobody comes out and speaks up on behalf of injustice, then nothing will ever be accomplished. But I do not agree with his last action with what he did. But I do agree about the government."
