All I can think of was getting swamped by horde of gaunts with my Inquiistor in termie armour in the middle. After all 40 some attacks I only had to take 3 saves on my Inquiistor (the retinue had absorbed the rest) 3 2+ from surving, I rolled.. . . . all 1s. . . .
The dice gods be fickle. . . .

in 2nd edition, Abaddon, after dodging a vortex grenade that ran past him, got flattened by a flying turret from one of my chaos marine predators that blew up due to the same vortex grenade.

Not really a death but Ragnar ran off the board. Kinda pathetic and worse than a unheroic death.

On thrid turn three wraths die from Whirlwind mines. Then on forth turn one scout at max range destroys a Monolith with a krak missile. Almost made them phase out. It was a game of unheroric deaths but epic kills.

Question about the second one, I thought a monolith couldn't be glanced to death? Krak missiles can't pen against it's armor.

Edit: I'm asking because I don't know much about 4th ed rules/codexes (codeceii?). What's the plural for codex anyway...

Turn two in the second round of the tournament I played this past Saturday, my vanilla marines libby was safely ensconced in his razorback and in line of sight of a 1k-Sons squad hunkering down on an objective. I whipped out Null Zone at the start of shooting and roll a 4 - awesomesauce! Those 4+ invulnerables are so going down!

Next, I drop Vortex of Doom on his bunched up models for AP1 killiness and roll box-cars. First things being first, he takes the Perils wound for a lack of an invulnerable save. Next, the template drops on top of his transport. The opponent rolls a 3 for penetration, followed by a 6, and cries, "Tzeentch protects!" I'm thinking 'no biggie' - S4 hits, AP- on marines. He rolls 6 wounds and everyone saves - except the libby. His last wound expended, the Librarian takes his shame with him to the grave.

Interestingly enough, the heavy bolter that was in the razorback with him ended up being the last man alive in the squad and inflicted casualties every round to the end of the game.

Well, it was one of my b reports but to repeat;

I had a Lone Wolf run across the board, survive Oblit fire, bolters, etc. Tzeentch Prince is only 2 inches away in terrain and my Lone Wolf is finally ready to avenge himself. Terrain test = double 1s. Next turn he promptly gets turned into a Spawn by the Demon Prince. He then proceeds to turn around and eat 4-5 Grey Hunters.

A lone marine....trying to avenge his fallen battle brothers....becomes a spawn....that eats more battle brothers.......

THE RULEBOOK WARNED ME IT WAS GRIM DARK. I HAD NO IDEA HOW GRIM DARK IT WAS.

I've MASSACARED my own army in Warhammer. Thats right I got the 1000VP for a massacre myself my opponent had very little to do with this. First of all my Warlock Engineer blows himself up this panics the Grey Seer and Stormvermin Bodyguard so they leg it off the board. Then I stand and shoot at a lone Glade Rider champion with a Warpfire Thrower- Misfire in the resultant blast a regiment of Clan Rats, a regiment of Giant Rats and another Warlock Engineer decide to leg it of the board. Finally to cap it off my Gutter Runners have their turrets collapse on top of them.........Great Game actually.......

In WHFB I saw an all Night Goblin army run off the board on the first turn when the Skaven opponent rang his Screaming Bell.

All those Ld5 Gobbos had to make tests or run.

One unit of archers remained for the Goblin player. He conceded the game without ever even moving a model forward on the table.

Back in 3rd edition me and my friends were playing a small 2v2 game and my friend dan that was on my side tried to deepstrike his black templars right next to other team's dark angels HQ. He rolled the scatter dice and his HQ went right into a mountain he lost his commander & emperor's champion and his troops scattered right off the board. He was out of the game the first fifteen minutes of us starting. the dark angels player ragged on him for like two weeks straight after that.

Low-point game, I think it was 1000 points...

I turbo-boosted a Necron Destroyer Lord (T6, 3+ cover save) toward on of my opponent's vindicators (yes multiple vindicators at 1000 points ), poised to rip it apart the following turn.

He shoots at it with a ML-armed dev squad. Nothing.

The vindicator takes a shot: Nothing.

A group of bolter-armed tacmarines from about a foot and a half away take their measly 10 bolter shots. 8 hits, 3 wounds (wounding on a 6!), and I failed every save... I pretty much had to ragequit once I failed my WBB roll.

I've had worse, my destroyer lord once died in 4 consecutive rounds of combat with fething GUARDIANS, losing all 3 wounds in the first inc a failed dangerous terrain, cost me the match since it was the end of the game and contesting.

1/54 if you count the 2/3rds hit rate.

I always think it's funny to see people complain about Necron auto-glances in 3/4E, where our warriors had a 1/54 chance per shot to kill an LR. So OP, right? (For the record , 360 points worth of warriors shooting in rapid fire range only has a 53% chance of popping the LR. They also only have a 53% chance of popping a rhino under those conditions, and that's even assuming that all 20 warriors magically survive the slogging within a foot on an LR. More realistically, 20 shots at 24 inch range only has a 32 inch shot. Even more realistically (since Warriors are a liability) 10 shots have a 17% chance of pulling this off.

Playing against my father. He already grew to HATE my ionheads so he was gunning for them with his Chapter Master. I managed 2 wounds on him as he closed, and he then charged my cornered Ionhead with his relic blade armed CMaster. He rolled a 6 and got a Pen hit, rolled a 6 again, Kaboom! I managed to roll high enough to wound him on the explosion and naturally, he rolled a 1 and went out with the Ionhead.
Not really unheroic as he still nailed the IH, but pretty funny. He still enjoyed blowing the thing up even losing his CM in the process.

Ragnar Blackmane goes up against a Shas'O and his retinue. Ragnar eats the retinue, but fails to kill the Shas'O. Shas'O uses vectored retro-thrusters, and disengages with one wound remaining. He opens fire on Ragnar, dropping two wounds off of him with a burst cannon and a Plasma Rifle. Far-off Hammerhead fires, Ragnar dodges. Ragnar returns fire, and takes last wound off of Shas'O. Shas'O ejects, and is just far enough away to be out of assault range. Shas'O fires single shot from pulse pistol, and Ragnar drops like a stone.
Damn the dice. Able to dodge a shell that travels so fast it ignites the air, yet gets killed by a sidearm.

This didn't happen TO me but against me.

First tournament I ever played in I was running Tau back in 3rd. A Chaos Lieutenant with a Daemon weapon and 2+ armor charged a squad of 10 Fire Warriors in cover.
He rolls a 1 with his Daemon weapon to take a wound and not attack, I attack back and he fails the one wound I do.

Fire Warriors > Chaos Lieutenant
Probably one of the craziest things in 40k I've ever seen.
I ended up winning the game and the tourney.

That's not so much an unheroic death on the part of Ragnar so much as it is utter bad-assery on the part of the Shas'O.

I would buy a Ragnar kit then and there put his axe on the base of the Shas'O.

Not really a death but....

A friend's Ragnar is constantly backhanded, elbowed, and otherwise killed by the friend's little brother.

And then there was that little game last week, where I successfully got a friend into the hobby, and his ork boy killed my SM captain....

I continually whiffed, killing 2 models at most and they never got shot at due to more pressing concerns and everything else was out of range. The guy won the campaign undefeated, I was by far the closest to winning and nearly won my first 3 games which were so close. 1st Phased out due to game continuing to T7 while 1-0 on objectives, 2nd was that and 3rd a unit in combat with me held an objective in the middle while I couldn't contest.

Ugh, my Wolf Lord has some bad luck. One time he and another Space Marine Commander (it was an allied game) fought our way into the enemy base, only to discover that they had garrisoned a unit of Fire Dragons inside a building without telling us (I was a noob at the time so I didn't say anything). The Fire Dragons proceeded to nuke my Wolf Lord, seeing that he was the more dangerous target. So I guess it was a slight compliment, but I didn't see it as such lol

Of course now that I have Guard I've done it a couple times in touraments with my Vendettas, but I still wouldn't call it heroic.

FEAR the mighty guardsman, hammer of the Emperor!

1. flyrant gets close to my line infantry squad. shrugs off most of my army's fire, but a russ w/heavy bolter sponsons give's her a few wounds for the trouble...it has 1 wound left when my line infantry squad opens up...the sgt's bolt pistol does her in.

2. Lysander getting killed in close combat by a guard sgt with a chainsword and laspistol.

3. the master of the fleet pulling his laspistol out and administering the kill shot to vulkan after vulkan wiped out the autocannon squad

4. Vendetta strafing the LR crusader and doing a victory roll after the LR's fuel cell goes up, taking 4 TH-SS termies with it

5. Pask shooting Typhus in the face with an AT shell and splattering his pus ridden corpse all over hs retinue

This isn't really unheroic but rather a story of heroic guardsmen. My Veterans were in cover charged by a Space Wolf IC (which one is unimportant -- any of them should be able to take out a vet squad.)

What? It's in termie armour? I go first! Guardsmen save the day!

I only remember this because even though my partner and I were already trouncing our opponent, I couldn't help but do a high-five because of their spunk and felt a bit bad about it cause next turn, turn 4 we tabled them.
