I don't understand you there. LFL have licenced games before; role-playing and miniatures to West End Games and Wizards of the Coast, Wizkids did the Pocketmodels, Kenner/Palitoy made the action figures and board games have been produced by various companies. So I really can't see LFL buying a company just to make miniatures, it would be against everything they have done in the past.

Unless you were referring to Games Workshop not wanting to do this, but they do the Lord of the Rings game. Personally I cannot see Games Workshop making a move for Star Wars, but previous business actions by LFL or GW would not rules it out.

I was referring to GW not wanting to do this because they have the LotR they are working with right now. If they did not have LotR, then maybe yes I could see it happening.

To take on such an IP, let alone another, would require a lot...and, IMHO, as it stands GW seems to have their hands full with WHFB, 40k, LotR and overlooking their various licensed products (video games and RPG).

I am sure we will see another Star Wars miniatures game soon just maybe not from GW.

I'm back!

It would cost him in excess of a $100 million to buy GW... $50M to buy just a controlling stake. Or he would make $X-millions without doing anything beyond signing a piece of paper to grant GW a license to produce miniatures and a game.

And I am sure George just happens to have that much balancing out his table in the dining room.
My point, was that George "I've got $2 Billion" Lucas, has made as much money as he has not by producing all the merchandise himself or by buying the companies that do, but by licencing to people who want to make Star Wars stuff. By licensing he doesn't have to spend much of anything to get the big checks. He just pays the many lawyers that work for him already to ensure that a company doesn't mess up anything badly. Some fraction of that lawyers $100K a year salary would be the only substantial cost and that lawyer can oversee many other licensees.
