Not even cake?
First of all, I give orkeosaurus credit for making the French Revolution relevent.
Secondly, I think that her execution wouldn't change anything. The only way to stop this stuff from happening is to get rid of every single mentally unstable person.
Also, as a recommendation there are types of churches to avoid; typically ones located in strip malls should be avoided along with anything with "Westboro Baptist" in it's name.
Although, I would recommend punishment for the cult leader. Seeing as though Orkeosaurus has already helped reference the french revolution I say death by guillotine would be fitting for her. That'll make sure that future cult leaders don't use the names of historical figures ever again.

Ignorance is not a valid excuse.

Brainwashing is an awfully handy excuse for stupidity it seems.
We typically disagree, but not in this instance.
And in honor of Soladrin's Germanic background I respectfully submit the appropriate tool for reformation of the cult.

I disagree strongly.
I hear heads splat like ripe watermelon.
Charming... Just charming.
And neither of the above are sufficient. May I reccomend this-
And start chopping at the feet and work up.
No, no, no!
This is the right thing. It seems medieval-ish, and would make slapping the b**** more fun.

I didn't mean to be using it as an excuse for her. I was not saying she was ignorant of the law, but there is something very simple about this woman if she still believes that her child will come back from the dead 'cured'.

Your point?
Neither of us is stating that ignorance of the law is an excuse here.

These people need help not to be punished. And i think maybe the cult leadr just idk prison. Even if he does get murder some how he will plead insanity.
Why? To let me know that the current law system is far to lenient? I don't need classes for that.
We are to harsh if you ask me. We put all cases in a box as in they are all the same. "This murder is the same as the ones yesterday" is our mentality. But not all cases are they same. The mother may not have control of her rational mind. She may not have a say.
You should go read the the new yorker article calle "trial by fire" It shows how we lump all cases together.
garret wrote:When she is brainwashed by a cult leader who most likely is puppeting her mind it is not. She thought it was right. She should be help and i am glad to hear that she is. It is the leader who is monsterous for ordering that.
I'm sorry, but brainwashing is one of the DUMBEST excuses I have ever heard of being presented in court. Unless brainwashing is funny speak for "Believing dangerously religeous CRAP".
garret wrote:Honersstodnt wrote:1) she can be made well, in which she will realize she took the life of her son for nothing, and will be unable to live with herself, making death a mercy.
Or maybe she could go on teaching the dangers of being in a cult. There for helping to prevent what happened to her son to others kids.
The dangers of a cult? Does no-one in America remember Waco? Is that not sighn enough that Religious Extremists are dangerous and will get you killed NO MATTER THE DEITY?
garret wrote:Shadowbrand wrote:Yet more fuel for my hatred for religion.
Why are you lumping us all together there will alway be people who take everything to the extreme. That doesnt mean you need to hate all of them.
Faith is good. Religion isn't.

Oh come on. She WILLINGLY killed her baby. No matter what you say about brainwashing or being told to do it, she murdered her child.

Grossly simplified, but yeah. Basically.
Faith is good. Religion isn't.
So faith in religeon is...what? C'mon you're contradicting yourself here.
Oh come on. She WILLINGLY killed her baby. No matter what you say about brainwashing or being told to do it, she murdered her child.
1) She is not necessarily the one who actually had the baby starved. I'm of the opinion that the cult leaders convinced her to let them take the child and do so. (Which in no way excuses her from the action. But it does put it in a different light than being the one to actually carry it out)
2) This woman is obviously unbelieveably ignorant, not of the law but in pretty much everything to wistfully believe that ressurection happened on a day-to-day basis.
3) The court/prosecution clearly believed that sending her to jail would do no good whatsoever to anybody, and that her time would be better spent trying to rehabilitate her

Hey, I get the occasional zombie or ressurection every 500-2000 years or so. I make it a policy of mine to take everyday modern back-from-the-dead incidents with a grain of salt.

Personal faith is great, it helps people get through life.
Faith in hypocryte priests that spout that condoms will do nothing againts AIDS, violate children and ask for donations to to the poor while wearing solid gold crosses and silk dresses? Faith in someone who tells you that starving you child to death is the right thing to do? Faith in someone who says blowing yourself and a bunch of innocent people skyhigh is a great idea?
Religion is an outdated way of keeping the populace in check with superstition and intolerance.

Oh. So you're not saying that religeon is superstitious and intolerant, you're say that it's not doing a good enough job to keep people superstitious and intolerant.
