Thanks guys. LordBoJangles - I can still switch out the hands whenever, I really want to cast up the red one in clear orange actually.
Okay, I've been busy with things that aren't modelling today (since it's double XP weekend on War For Cybertron. >_> ) but I did take some time out to build my two Crusader/Redeemers. There are magnets behind the front tracks, which let the frag launchers pop off so I can swap out the sponsons for Godhammer canons if I feel like it... The sponsons are also magnetised so I can switch them out with the doors... I like the look better with the sponsons to the rear, but Flamestorm cannons and Hurrican Bolters are both much better off with the extra inch and a half or whatever of range. :( So this way I can play with them forward and keep them at the rear for Godhammer mode or display. Similarly the hatches up top are magnetised to allow for swapping of storm bolters, heavy flamers, etc etc.
Nothing new to the Stormraven, but I took a few pics in strong daylight to help me with reference for NMM on the engines and stuff later, which was my partner's idea.
Hopefully I'll spray the basecoat on the tanks and the Stormie tomorrow.

Also, how did you just so happen to have the top hull of a land raider? And the sponsons? You're really lucky! I would've just turned it into terrain

Thanks guys.
Samus - The Stormraven is a modified version of This (click me!) But yeah, his design fit my mental image of the Stormrave pretty well, so I had to take a shot at my own one. Main differences are that I've got my weapons in different places, and have a different cockpit. As for the LR parts, I had the sponsons thanks to a friend who'd presumably used the rest of the LR for something else, and I ordered the hull off of a bitz site, I've been collecting destroyed/damaged 40k vehicles for more custom ork stuff for a while and I'd had plans for the hull.
Right, now to go get my Airbrush ready...

I'd say it's weird, but the world is a really tiny place, and I meet people online who've met my RL friends all the time. Maybe it comes from being nerdy. TF fandom in particular is tiny, which you probably appreciate given your avatar. Are you one of the comic shop lot then?

It's very novel for me. I was literally commenting on Andrew's list this morning after he said you pounded him silly.
We have friends in common actually, although I suppose I could be lumped in with the 'comic shop' lot - I know loads of them so yeah, why not? I've been a customer of Mark's for about 8 years. Andrew and I are both members of a FB group of 40k players within that social circle.
TF fandom is indeed a pretty small part of the geek landscape, although if you've even been to Auto Assembly it's nice to see a whole bunch of people into robots.
Anyway, thread derailment aside. On with the blog!

Ah, yes, I know your name now. But I doubt we've met. I /might/ be at Auto-Assembly this year though.
Back on topic, I've spent a few hours airbrushing all this crap thanks to chunky bits in my Mechrite red gumming up the works of my airbrush, but I wanted to post it before grabbing sleep.
This is practically an entire army in and of itself... If only the JP Marines didn't have the packs, it'd probably be legal at around what, 2000?
Furioso Libby gets some love too, finally. He's being sprayed blue as that's the base coat for my Librarian Dreads.
And Grandpa Libby gets a base. Not finished painting him yet, but I feel much better about the model now. Every base in my army will be modelled after this one.
Mephiston, TTAC Dread, ye olde metal BA Dread, Land Raider #1.
Stormraven (which I love even more now it's red), LR 2.
LR3, plus kibble.
A lesson not to take a photo with a black background, my camera hates it. 10 JP Assault Marines, 10 without.

So, today I did washes and highlights on 30 Assault Marines, 3 Land Raiders, a Stormraven, 2 Dreadnoughts, and Mephiston... I'm kinda desperate to get a good selection of minis painted before I move to Japan, since I know I'll be able to get some gaming out there, but I doubt I'll be able to afford to pick up a good selection of paints.
So, here's most of that:
As an aside, I hate painting yellow, and the yellow BA Assault Marine heads are starting to bug me. >_>; Kinda pleased with how they've come out though.
Stormraven, with the first inklings of some weathering.

Okay, I'm now convinced that water-soluble black oil paint is the greatest thing ever. I am so, so happy with how the Stormie is looking.
No comments about the Fenris Grey though please. It's a placeholder as I work my way up to some other kind of grey for NMM engine parts etc. Got plans for scorched metal thrusters and gun barrels...
Dark pic of the Dread in the clamps.
Mephiston, Lord of coming out too dark in photos.
Also, I still hate painting Yellow. I also feel like a moron for trying to paint green eyes on yellow helmets... How the hell did I think that was going to end well? The yellow won't cover to touch up and my attempts to wipe it away smeared everything on a few helmets green. -_- Though for all that, my live-in Imperial Fists player is aparrently jealous of how it turned out.
The bad news is that leaving them near an open window meant that the magnets shrank in the cold wind and broke off of the parts they were glued to... Argh. I don't have a drill big enough for my largest magnets to be mounted into something. I'll have to putty them back into place.

Thanks! Yeah, the Gundam parts worried me a bit at first (as it's actually a pet hate of mine to see, especially in Tau armies), but then I realised that honestly, if I'm happy with the look than it doesn't matter if I stray toooo much from the 40k norm. And, er, see any Generations toys in your neck of the woods?

Thanks! Wait, can we exalt/smite people here, or is that DCMs only? Automatically Appended Next Post: In response to a query on another board, I thought I'd share these;
Mephiston's wings are just pinned above the backpack mount, though the backpack vents had to be cut off and the connecting piece removed inn order for it all to fit. Similarly, Dante's backpack mount wouldn't take the wings, so I just pinned them into the SG JP instead.
The downside is, in daylight Dante looks like ass. Argh. Maybe I should give up on this NMM stuff and just strip them and spray them Alclad Chrome. -_-;
And since I had some good light for once;
You can probably see how I've just been lazy and used magnets...
Those are speed blurs! 4+ cover save!
Finally got a shot of Psycho Tycho not to come out blurred as all hell. Shame the sculpting looks really bad. >_<
Finally, some decent shots of my Assault Grunts.
The guys without helmets are an interesting story... Like all my Assault Marines, they're secondhand guys I gave a new lease on paint and life, but unlike most of them, these guys aren't from the eBay slop pile, they used to be a friend's UM Veteran squad. I thought it'd be fun to lump them in a JP-less Assault squad, with a headswap for the Sarge.

Great stuff, except the valkyrie engines on the stormrave, i know a valk kit is good for kitbashing, but those engines just look way too wimpy in any raven conversion ive ever seen, use 4-6 or go get the starwars pod racers toy engines, way beefier looking.

Funny you should say that, I was originally going to scratchbuild a similar shape before I found the "Horn Pattern" conversion guide online, and I was going to use my ertl Pod Racer kit's engines. I'd love to have used another set of engines, but I didn't really feel like casting GW parts, and could only afford to do this in the first place because a friend traded me the Valkyrie. :(

Should probably take this to PM, but what are they at retail, out of interest? There's a UK TF 'con on soon, y'see...
Okay, so as not to derail my own thread with Transformers;
I hate painting burnt metal without using metallics, but I set myself the stupid challenge of not using metallics or SFX paints in this army. I then cheated and used some UV paints mixed with the highlights. Bleh.
Trying to work out if I should try and blend some of the base colour up for highlights or just drybrush it. I'm inclined to side with the latter...
Happy with how the Stormy is looking though. Will be taking it dow to my local GW later...

I live in Central London, so there are no toy stores with cheap stuff basically. :( There's only one toystore and it has like a 40% markup... HOWEVER, a guy at my local GW is giving me some Valk engines he has spare from his Vendettas, which I might use to buff up my 'Raven...
Also, tried using the Stormraven today in a game... Didn't come on before we ran out of time and called it a night. -_-; Useless.

All your stuff is quite impressive, althout the Scratchbuilt dread might be my favorite. I like the 2nd hand for the Librarian dread, as the pose of the old one kept making me think "live long and prosper!"
While I'm not sure I like the concept of Deep-striking dreadnoughts (I have problems with a lot of stuff in the BA codex), the way you've executed it is awesome.
I'd really love to see more pictures of the design work that went into the Furioso Librarian.

Thanks a lot for the kind words.
For what it's worth, I never DS my Dreads outside of Drop Pods, they just use the Stormravens as a taxi service. Which of the Furioso Librarians are you talking about, the scratchbuild or the original one?
Not sure if those are a repost, but they're the build pics I took. It was basically all done on the fly though, working out the general shape of the Venerable Dread, and using what I had to hand which was the right shape.
