Like the look and scale of the Shining Gundam hand. That gives me some ideas seeing as I have a veritable legion of Gundam minis from various series, mostly form the One Year War though. Still would be great for some German-esque looking IG stuff.

Force staffs are the best. I really don't see why people don't user them on their libby dreads. seismic hammers suck, don't use those.

I very much like your model (I DO like the hand) but the way the sword is held on makes it looks like its going to snap off any moment.

I'm pretty much settled on giving the new guy a Force Staff. And thanks for the advice, Cosmic Pixie!
vodo40k - is that just because of how its tilted at an angle?
Okay, found an alternative hand for the first Dread, please try and ignore the colour as best you can and tell me if the shape is any better. Besides that, did some work on the scratchbuilt one, added piston detail and cables to the legs, basically finished up the torso, just need to build the arms and I'm done!

If you get some metal tubing, then slink some putty around it in a spiral, it'll make a great force-staff. A book would be nice nice too.

Cheers guys.
Samus - I have plans for the Force Staff, I'm not sure it'll have the usual "red swirl", but it should look exciting enough. I'm looking to split a box of Sanguinary Guard with a friend, so I'll be getting a lot of kibble there.
vodo40k - Really? Thanks, not a lot of people seemed to like the first hand... I'm tempted to recast the second in clear and then glaze it with clear yellow and orange for a proper comparison.
Sanchez01 - Haha, which one, the red or orange hand? Either way, he's pimpslapped a LOT of people in the games I've used him in...

Well IMO the first hand looks like its glowing with heat and the second looks like its made of crystal. Anyway im not one to judge, its your decision, the dread looks decent with either hand.

Awesome work so far on both. Kudos to you.
Have you tried the hand without the 'wrist' section? It may shorten it that smallamount without detracting from original idea

vodo40k - Well, I think the shape of the second hand is more menacing, while the first is more like some kind of magical/psychic casting gesture, but I get your point. That's why I was thinking of recasting the second in another colour.
akira5665 - Thanks man. I'd thought about it, but the "wrist" is actually the mount for the hands from the same kit I stole the hands from, unfortunately the Dread arm alone didn't quite allow me to pose the thing the way I wanted (since it's basically a tight ABS tube you can pose the ball joint of the wrist in). It's even cut down compared to the original size just to fit.

Mate have you been to Japan before? If not you're so going to love it! Look for a store called Yellow Submarine when you get here. There are branches in Shinjuku and Akiba and there's one in Chiba, which is the city where I'm living. It's a hobbyists dream! Automatically Appended Next Post: p.s. meant to comment on the model as well!
Love the osl as it is, I wouldn't tone it down if I were you and the nmm's cool as well. Not too keen on the plainness of the sword personally but it's your model! I do like the hands too though.

Funny you should say that, I lived in Kyoto for a year, actually, and I should be heading back out in September for another year. Unfortunately Kyoto's Yellow Sub sucks, so I had to go to the one in Osaka... But the Volks superstore is a 10 minute train ride away from where I'll be living... Actually, the black WAVE joints I used on both Dreads are probably ones I brought back with me... And thanks!

Well, I finally got round to doing the arms, was distracted by Terminator Librarians and someone giving me something like £200 of Grey Knights and other assorted minis.
They're a bit longer than I'd have liked, but it gives him this whole Big-O feel, which looks good next to Brother-Librarian God Gundam in my mind. I've since stuck the winged blooddrop shoulder pad bits from the Death Company sprue on his forearms.
Just need to make the staff and he's good to paint.

Okay, this has now turned into a general update thread for my BA collection, who I'm experimenting with army builds for...
That's everyone so far. The astute among you will notice that only the Sanguinary Priest and one of the Dreads are even near finished...
Close up on the two Librarian Dreads. The Force Staff is a WIP.
Both Dante and Lemartes have had their metal jump packs replaced with plastic ones... I also like Dante having the Sanguinary Guard one, as they share so much visually. I'm experimenting with NMM on the Sang Guard, but it's slow and painful going...
Assault Squad + Sanguinary Priest.
Last but not least, a 2E Librarian Termie with the arms from the current model... long story short, a friend had both left over after a conversion, and since I'd severed the left arm for him, he offered it to me.
My plans are another Furioso Librarian (as one rocks, two are scary, and three are the best kind of overkill), as well as another two or three or four Dreadnoughts to choose from... Also, some Scouts, Death company and Assault Marines on foot, Land Raiders, and a Stormraven are planned before I have to move to Japan again...

Okay, I couldn't resist, I let everything else drop to the wayside while I started the Stormraven.
The Stormraven's based on the now-popular "Horn Pattern" custom, but I'll be doing a lot of things in my own way, particularly the rear doors/grapples.
I tried a game with a very silly 1500pt list involving 3 Furioso Libby Dreads, A Stormraven, 2 regular Dreads for fire support, Scouts, Death Company, led by Mephiston! They destroyed my friend's similarly experimental 9 Landspeeder Vulkan list, which was amusing. An incentive to actually model up more Dreads, at any rate.

Just because no-one else is interested, doesn't mean I won't keep updating!
Stormraven takes shape:
And with weapons:
And about 80% done:
You can see where it's differing from the "Horn" Pattern one, I didn't feel a need to extend the engine covers for one thing, I prefer the smaller fins at the front, and I'm mounting the weapons in totally different places... The Assault Cannon is magnetised btw, so if I feel a need for Twin Lascannons or whatever I can switch them out, while the HB is the standard Marine Turret size, coming from a Planetstrike gun base, with Immolator Heavy Bolters and some plasticard/rod and can also be switched out for whatever.

Liking the stormraven so far, but when mounted it looks a bit too stationary, tilting it forwards or to the side to make it look like its coming in to attack would really improve it imo.
I love both the libby dreads and approve strongly of the new hand on the first, the staff is also looking neat on the second although I think a bit more ornamentation on the top is in order. Good start on your marines, and Lemartes is looking awesome too. Keep it up and dont be discouraged by any lack of replies!

Thanks. It's not obvious from the pics but the Stormraven's actually tilted forwards for balance purposes, so it looks like the weapons are being aimed at someone/something IMHO As for the lack of replies thing, it's just a bit disheartening how the comments kinda tailed off I guess. I've had even less interest at B&C though, DakkaDakka's been positively chatty by comparison.

Thanks a lot man. For what it's worth, the white scratchbuilt Dread is actually slightly SMALLER than a GW Dread, at least the torso/legs are. I screwed up my measurements a little during the build...
So, I get the second most important set of university results I'll ever get sometime later today, which meant I couldn't sleep last night. But, on the upside, this means I got some modelling time in;
Someone down my local GW shop gave me a land raider minus sponsons, weapons and top hull plate in exchange for a pint. One order of bitz and a rummage through my box later, and my BA Godhammer was born. Now I just need to make my two Crusader/Redeemers...
Stormraven got a lot of love, too;
These are the only doors which don't open. I just honestly couldn't be bothered to cut the hole in the hull, add hinges, magnetise it to keep shut, etc etc...
Now, here's the fun part; the Magna-clamps.
And of course, me being me, they actually ARE magnetic. As are my Dreads.
More impressive when you realise he has lead-based pewter legs from my old 1990's metal Dreadnought...
I just need to get off my butt and blend the hatches into the rear of the hull more when they're "down", and the assembly is totally finished! Unless you count all the weapon options. Which I plan on now making, after realising that mech armies laugh at Heavy Bolter/Assault Cannon combos.

Hmm. I'm not getting a lot done fast at the moment, since I'm preparing to move... But I really want my BA done before I do (since I've heard that there are more 40k players in Kansai than when I was last there), so I'm pressing on!
Stormraven with some undercoat, and TL Multi-melta and Lascannon.
Poked at my Sanguinary Guard, too. Want to flat out things like their shoulderpads and swords to get a sese of the whole mini for the NMM armour.
Finally, did a bit of work on the mini that started it all.
