I invested into space marines because I like the look of a Knightly Army. Not only that But I love history so They have the largest history of all the Races.
I also play eldar, guard, orc, Daemon Hunters, Deathwatch, and Tau when I can. But My Space Marines I play because they are my most favorite that. And I make all my Space Marines Look like they just came from a Crusade. Damn I really need to get back in the hobby I've been away too long. Anyway. Everytime a New codex comes out lots of new players show up. Some sell their space marines. (Thats how i have so many. because kids sell it because they want the new race.) And I laugh because its like advertisement every time something new comes out everyone wants it. Its Commericalisium. But I do have to say that their are too Many space marine players. I remember when Space marines actually took skill to play all the way back in the 4th ed. Because they were hard to play because they didn't have access to lots of low cost things.

LOL...One other question is, if they stop making SMs, cut down all the codices, burn the exsisting models, are we going to remember them?Or move on and let them fall into the shadow of time?

I started with IG, because I loved them, their attitude, their playstyle and looks in DOW 1. I think that the first DOW hardly pushed SMs at all. I feel that it helped raise a 5-8 year mini generation that introduce players who were already familiar with an overview of the background of all the races, not just UltraSMurfs. DOW 2, on the other hand, is more fervent in it's support of the flagship army, what with the (admittely pretty good) campaign being all SMs all the time.

6000 points IG, Leviathins 8th company, (store regiment) 60% painted
4500 points Empire 80-90% painted!

I managed to play a 1750 point game with minimal proxieing on the first day DE came out. go me!

This is the story behind EVERY starter box since 2nd edition. Why GW insists on making all its money from one product is a mystery. Money is money whether it comes from SM sales or (insert non-SM army) sales. Though people who don't want SMs might buy (insert non-SM army), if only (insert non-SM army) got a little more attention...

As someone who worked in the hobby industry for quite awhile, it's because as strange as it sounds buyers do not do well with choice. MOST gamers need directed, otherwise they get confused and buy nothing. It's a sad fact, but many people are sheep when it comes to consumerisms and want someone to tell them what they want.

The next one of you that posts about Wraiths being I2 and ignores the whip coils mentioned 2000 times a week, and I am going to devote the rest of my life to becoming an ancient space god to trick and enslave a race, and turn them into soulless T-100s to rid the entire universe of life. At that point it will have been worth it.

So if Space Marines are for the sheep that need to be goaded into an army to actually pick anything, I guess Inquisition is for those pretentious feths who are so far up their own ass that they can't tell a good army from a gak one?

Yea, I just noticed, marines cost more points, and has much more nice stuff in the AOBR box, Hmmm....It must be an accident that GW made it this way...or not

If Nids are space nazis, what the hell is the Imperium? I like to think of the nidz as India. On Crack. With the munchies.

I originally bought AOBR for space marines. I painted two and went straight to Orks.

When I first started, back in't day, The first models I laid eyes on were space marines, painted in different colour schemes, in a brochure someone brought into school. I chose the blood angels, 'cause I liked the colour scheme.

One week later, I was the proud owner of a squad of tactical marines & the 3rd ed BA codex.

By the time I even realised there were other races, it was too late!

I was going to go for the whole 'because they get the most plastics, codices, shelf-space, BL books, self-fufilling prophecy yadda yadda', but this homo-eroticism idea is intriguing...

Yeah, it's definitely that thing.

I still think that it has to do with video games.

I liked the earlier comment about people being paralyzed by choice. I personally had a problem choosing a fantasy army because I like the look of several of them. I've finally chosen Wood Elves because they are pretty and because they have a faerie queen. My 40k army will be sisters of battle because I like the look of Saint Celestine and because I think chicks with chainswords are really cool.

painted: 12 dryads,9 glade guard,2 glade guard scouts.
assembled but unpainted: 2 glade guard and the lord's bowman, 8 glade guard scouts, sexy elf lord
in the box: , 8 glade riders, , one female spellsinger, Orion, Ariel, the faerie queen. SOB immolator, 15 sisters.

But little kids dont think about chicks, thats why they do straight for the chicks brothers

I'd start off with it being a very well-supported product with lots of time and effort put into the "they're soooo cool" fluff. Oh, and starter set.

Play-wise, they're fairly versatile, and are a very forgiving army with the statline they have. Not having any specific weaknesses that don't screw other armies over as well, makes them attractive. It's a good army for getting a good feel for all parts of the game and then makes for a nice way to figure out what you second army should be...

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.
