As far as pre- heresy goes I would have to say Sanguinius for his innate leadership abilities noted in two places; first in one of the HH novels when someone who would know says he should have been warmaster and second when he was described in contrast to leman Russ in another book. To paraphrase: "Where russ looked for a man's weakness, Sanguinius looked for his strengths."

Not many people pay him attention, cause he's from DOW, but I think he is such a magnificent bastard. So eloquent, and such a conniving git. He caused the Blood Ravens to sacrifice their troops to help him ascend to daemonhood, and he caused the death of that annoying Bale.

Gaunt (from what I've read)
Roth seems pretty cool so far, I tend to like inquisitors since they are more 'human' characters than the rigid, indoctrinated (sometimes) space marines.

I'll go with Cortez too, he disarmed a Warboss by getting the Ork's weapon stuck in his ribcage, talk about badass.
But what's all this about bionics, thought that was Cassius' thing?
