I've seen plenty of towels thrown in prematurely, though.

Me too. I had a guy try to conced in a 2v2 game because of how me and my partner had deployed. Fortunately his partner refused to concede and we had a fun game that ended in a draw, but seriously, conceding at deployment? How can anybody honestly judge a game of 40k just because of how their opponent deployed even though they havn't started to deploy their own units.

The greater good needs some moo.

On moon miranda.

If someone just quits as soon as they are in a disadvantageous postion, that's lame. However, if it is obvious that one force is broken and, short of wildly statistically impossible dice luck, doesn't have a prayer of winning no matter how good the commander, then it's entirely acceptable to concede, in fact may be the best thing to do so the next game can be setup and played quickly.

When some quits around turn 2 or 3 there usually not having that much fun anyways so i figure the game probably wouldn't have been that fun anyway if they allowed it to continue. However I do feel cheated if they have plenty of stuff left on the board and can still play to a draw.

I always have more fun when the game runs its natural course and my favorite games go all the way to turn seven. If I'm on the receiving end of a serious stomping i just try to focus fire on the unit that turned the tide against me.

As for people who say they don't want to wait around for 30 min while they loose if the game is going that badly the turns are probably going to go pretty fast anyway so you might as well finish .
As long as dice are getting rolled I'm having fun.

Personally, I wouldn't quit a game unless I just really couldn't stand my opponent or there was some outside circumstance that forced me to.
Further, if someone had a habit of quitting games they were playing just because they weren't doing as well as they'd hoped, I would tend to look for other opponents instead of them.
(Mind you, there were a number of games that I was involved in, back when I played more, in which the first turn went so horrifically lopsided that we simply laughed and started over, which is a bit different than quitting, I'd say.)

I played in a tournament today, and my opponent conceded at the bottom of turn two. It was IG vs. Dark Eldar at 1500pts, and all he had left was two dark lance squads, each four men, 6 pinned wyches, 8 DE on foot, a 5 man raider squad with dark lance, and a single immobilized raider. I still had nearly my entire army.

I accepted, because he was simply having a miserable time, and the best he could hope for was to prevent a complete massacre, and that was only because the missions didn't give any points for tabling, only for objectives.

Resigning in-game is OK. If he doesn't let you resign with dignity just remove the pieces off the board.
Just remain calm while you're doing it otherwise you'll look like a dakhead.

Also, do not offer your opponent to resign ( I just think shows you're getting ahead of yourself)

I personally have never conceded a game, or been conceded to (I'm not good/lucky enough for that ). I kind of look at it as a sportsmanship/do unto others type of thing, plus I find I have plenty of fun just having my guys on the field, rolling dice, and talking with my opponent. Hence, even when I'm getting pummled, I'm still having a good time of it.

I'll quit playing if I'm getting slaughtered and have a whole 5 men left after turn 3 and the game just isn't any fun. I mean, whats the point of going to the end when you already know it's over?

I say die like a man and finish the thing. I played my first game after a LONG grace period from 40K. I blame the borrowed dice and the borrowed army, but the space marines didn't do too well against some orks. Turn 3, two marines left, go into assault just for gaks and giggles, break moral of boyz squad and slaughter them all, marines get shot to hell shorty after. Its the small things that give pleasure. But GOD was that some bad rolling on my part.

I conceded a game of warmachine recently due to my own forgetfulness putting me in a very vulnerable position.
i forgot to use my feat (once per game ability) and in my case it was a very defensive ability when i was wide open to be killed. after i realized what i had missed and looked how close i was to being killed by magic and guns i knew it was over. my opponent said he already had planned two ways of winning by the end of my turn. If i would have won from that point it would be out of dumb luck and not skill.
the lesson: never forget the plan.

That said, I don't have a huge problem (just a small one) with someone wanting to end a game early if it's clearly lost AND there's time to start a new one.
