I drove and built MKII jettas and Golfs for about 4 years. If you are going to get the rado, why not G60 or VR6? Also, the Rado's are often referred to as labors of love, they have many many problems...I hope yours doesn't have a sun roof.

Okay. So, I take it you've owned one and had the opportunity to see how it is, then?

I've had mine a year, now. With the exception that it's too light, despite the front wheet drive, to function in snow/heavy ice, there is not one single thing I can find to complain about.

What has your experience been with owning/driving these automobiles? Or are you simply voicing a baseless prejudice against them? I mean, "steaming pile of crap" is a bit more serious than, "I don't like the way they look" or something similar.

I guess I should be more specific. The Nissan Cube may be the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen. Reasons: it's asymmetrical and it's a box. At least the Scion has symmetry.
I think it's funny when I hear people talking about the cool amenities in their ugly cars; but I guess you have to justify it somehow.

And now that you mention it, where I live there is snow on the ground about a third of the year so I wouldn't be interested even if it weren't hideous.

This mid engined beauty is a 92 toyota MR2, non turbo. Mine is Custom Silver and has the sunroof instead of the T tops. Great for autocross. Odometer broke about 6 years ago at 80,000 miles...no idea how many miles it has.

I also have a 1968 vintage Sears Allstate. Its a re-badged Vespa sold at Sears. Found it rusted at a garage sale with only 300 miles on it. $50! Needed a lot of work, but its fun, scooter clubs are awesome. This too was repainted silver but with a flat green stripe.

I think it's funny when I hear people talking about the cool amenities in their ugly cars; but I guess you have to justify it somehow.

I don't know, I think sometimes ugly works though. Especially when you buy into it. I mean corrugated metal on a car, they wanted this to be ugly. I think it works just for that, plus it's convertible, you can remove the doors and push the windshield forward. Some of them even floated and had propellers in the back.

I love these Things.
And this would be awesome

Russian Ural with a driven sidecar. I think sometimes things are so ugly and different they are striking.

These are hideous though IMHO

Well, that doesn't exactly make it a "steaming pile of crap," now. That simply means you don't find it attractive.
There is a substantial difference.
I don't understand why you feel a car needs to be symmetrical. That happened to be the first thing that attracted me to the car. The amenities were LAST, as I'm a notorious cheap-*ss, and amenities cost money.
The scion may have symmetry, but it has less interior room than a cube. That's important to some people. Especially those of us who are 6'+ tall or... big fat gamers...

To be fair, I will say you're not the first person I've heard/seen say the car's ugly. I'm okay with that.
Actually, you're the second. The other is one of my closest friends. He forwarded me a link to an article that rated the cube in the top 10 ugliest cars (I responded with a few links showing it's functional, mechanical and performance rating in comparison to others in it's class).

Far more people have made positive comments than negative, however. I can't go out without people making positive comments.

Wraithlordmechanic wrote:I think it's funny when I hear people talking about the cool amenities in their ugly cars; but I guess you have to justify it somehow.

I can avoid amenities. I can talk specs or performance. Side by side, I'd glady compare it to any car in it's class... ESPECIALLY a Scion! That would probably need to be a separate thread, of course.

Wraithlordmechanic wrote:And now that you mention it, where I live there is snow on the ground about a third of the year so I wouldn't be interested even if it weren't hideous.

That's my issue with it too. It's not a bad vehicle. It's just too ugly to be something that should be 'pimped out'.

Same story with the Honda Civic. They're a really reliable, well rounded car. But they're certainly not worth the body kits and fart tubes that kids seem to love.

(It's a Jeep thing. The rest of you wouldn't understand.)

I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Hunter Green with a Spice interior, and an after-market soft-top from BestTops, along with some other after-market bits to make it even more off-road worthy. I can turn my car around in its own length, enter a parking spot that requires a 135 degree turn, drive over a fallen tree if it's less than a foot in diameter, and frequently enter and exit parking lots by driving over the curb and straight into a spot. And I can drive through rivers if they are less than four feet deep (though my feet do get wet).

In other words, my car makes your car jealous. It may be a big ugly green box, but it goes anywhere and everywhere. And with a V8 in it, it goes there fast.

Re: ugly cube

See, now. *That* opinion I have no qualms with... as it's opinion.
I respect that.
My point is that being "ugly" does not make it a steaming pile of crap.

I *disagree* with the "ugly" comments, but it's all good.

I doubt I'll ever get another one until/unless they get the weight issue worked out, though. I enjoy driving it (handles REALLY well), but I live in St. Louis. While I know we're not near the top of the lists in such things, we gt so much snow (and ice) here that it's a problem. I don't like "shelving" one of my cars for a good portion of winter due to snow/ice.

(See. I can point out the negatives. LOL)

Still love it. : )

Heh, we've got a silver GTO sitting in our car lot. Only two reasons it hasn't sold are

A) That according to our system, the nearest GM warehouse that carries parts for that damn thing is in Fontana, CA

and B) The GM Canada parts catalogue doesn't support the GTO. So if you need parts for it, you have to phone down to the states to order them.

Other than that, she's a beaut. I almost bought it on impulse because pricewise, we're pretty much trying to get rid of it at this point

2000 dakota sport... nice truck, poor gas mileage :(

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

I love my GTO. Getting parts is a bitch, yes, but it is worth it. I used to work for a couple car dealerships, I've driven a lot of nice cars. My GTO is one of the most comfortable, smooth, and exceptional cars I have ever driven. It is AMAZING. And it is a collector's vehicle too. Every year they made some significant changes to the car, so the three years it was made are almost all different cars. SO I take joy in the fact my car is only 1 of 876.

I can get over 15 MPG in the city, because I can get 35-38 on the highway. That's right, 35+ MPG out of a 414 HP 6.0 Litre V8. It's AWESOME.

I love my car.

I want the damn thing so bad. But I'm still paying off the tail end of the loan on my Grand Prix. Ahh well. Maybe if it hasn't sold in 2 or 3 years. Chances are, I'll still be able to scoop it up considering it's already been around for 2

Parts taking 2 weeks to get here would suck, but then again I probably wouldn't be using it as a daily driver either

Honestly, I can't even look up the VIN on this thing. I'd have to ask my Sales Dept. They're the guys with info on it. I do know it's a 2006, 6spd Manual. I've never actually sat in it, so I'd need to ask Sales or Service on mileage, and it's got custom rims and performance tires on it, so I have no idea on size.

EDIT: Here's the web page:

http://www.zimmerwheatongm.com/used/2006-Pontiac-GTO-Kamloops-BC/brochure_v2/374221?seo

Price tag is from a couple years ago though.

The specs on that thing are completely wrong... 230 HP? V6? WTF?

I assume that price is in Canadian dollars? That's a pretty good deal.

02 Chevy Z71 1500. 5.3L v-8, auto tranny, 4WD, extended cab. 1200 watt Kicker sterio (more than just subs, so yeah my stuff sounds good). BFG All-Terrains for tires, still on stock rims though... Also, last fall I picked up a "slammed into two deer and drove away from them both" front bumper and headlight package for free! Yeah...

I said that was the page. I never said it was correct in any way. But hey, who cares about the missing 200 Horse anyway... Obviously the IT guy that designed the page doesn't read vehicle information well

And yea, it's CAD. Like I said though, that tag is old. It's down to $25,888 CAD at the present

We also had one of the limited Anniversary edition 427's that GM put out. Sold that thing for about 28K... Damn... I hate being a broke-ass
