... Thinking about Catachans has given me an idea for an army that I will eventually have to pursue... Rebel Guard Army, based off the Brown Coats from Fire Fly... Catachan's with worn brown coats over there red undershirts with a gritty less tech look... *stores it for later use*

Armies:
2500pts - 88% Painted
1500pts - 55% Painted
Deamons 2000pts - 95% Painted

Back in the UK and hating it

My IG army is about 30% Catachans - the rest Cadians. I was using them as "light troops" - all part of the fluff I was creating for them. I'm currently rewriting my fluff to make them second line troops - obviously no difference on the tabletop.

i play catachins a bit, i know people who play them as well and i have seen a few dakkadakka P&M blogs about them in the past few months. i think the people, at least that i've noticed, that play catachins have really really cool armies with tons of character.

So, the catachan models, as presented are rather cruddy, but they make great conversions and stand-ins. Basically, if you want guardsmen who look rugged instead of relatively neat and clean, catachan are the way to go.

For example, the somali thing from page 1, or renegades, or using bits to help make hardened veterans. There's a lot of stuff you can do with the sprues, it's just unfortunate that you get such a mediocre result if what you do with them is assemble them as instructed.
