While possibly amusing, that completely ignores the fact that I posted, which is that the Imperial Guard get into far more fights than the Space Marines. Because there's far, FAR more of the Imperial Guard out there to actually get in fights. There's less than one Space Marine for every planet in the Imperium, but almost every planet has some kind of Guard presence. Any time the Imperium goes on the offensive, they bring Guard if they actually intend to take and keep any ground, because the second part of that is something the Astartes aren't equipped for. Manchu says: Please keep the discussion polite.

The point i am trying to make is that although the space marines may not apper much in war at all, i still think of Space marines when i think of the imperium, not guards. Its how i work. It may be wrong but I cant change it.
Are we getting a little off topic?

Yes, it's most assuredly wrong. If you really MUST include Space Marines, just say "Imperium", because Space Marines are such a tiny part of the Imperium that the overwhelming majority of Imperial worlds go generations without a single Marine stepping on their surface.
As for off-topicness? Nah, I'm just disputing the assertion that somehow Marines even damn qualify for a position to be considered possibly maybe potentially one of the top dogs on a good day and if everyone else is feeling under the weather.

Mainly because there's only around a million Space Marines, all told. Around 1000 chapters, with 1000 Space Marines. Some are smaller (like Salamanders), some are bigger (like Black Templars), but roughly a million. Compared to Imperial Guard, who number in the untold billions.
There's just not many Space Marines to go around. And while they are always at war, there's so many wars at any one time that there's not enough Space Marines to fight in all of them, or even a good portion of them.

Not really. Having only a million of them limits the damage they can do if they turn traitor again.

I say that all the factions have equal chance of survival, but for necrons who are already dead (unless their new codex changes their fluff.)
Imperium controlls the moist worlds right now, Chaos controls another plane, and tyranids and orks are takeing them down one by one. Eldar have eternity on their sides, Tau have new promise, and necrons are continually ploddding forward.

The Necrons are dead? That's news.

Orks are supposed to be the most widespread, actually.
