Well, if you see those posts above specifically from the user "Raging-Heroes", that's them. You can rest assured that they're definitely keeping tabs on this thread. Though, I'm sure they would appreciate extra traffic to their site and a direct response to their blog.
I certainly understand why some people don't like the necrotic wings, but that's part of what makes the mini that much more viable as the Vampiric Abyssal Terror and similar beasts of monstrosity. Of course, with a suitably undead paint job this could still be just fine with the holes filled in and it would make those people happier. I guess we'll see!

I can understand your viewpoint, but the creature is otherwise hale and hearty. It just looks odd for the wings to be in such bad shape considering its general appearance, but hey ho I will be getting one either way as the wings can be fixed and the pose is great

So, it appears the wings are the one galvanising dislike but the rest of the feedback seems overwhelmingly positive about this mini.
Hope to see something soon then!

Love the model including the wings! Would love to have a Lammasu alternative head, so I can buy a second model
I just don't see how the suggested rider fits in: Much too bulky for a Dark Elf, body and all heads are perfect for a Chaos Warrior, not a slender elf.
BTW Lammasu alternative head just confirmed by Raging Heroes over at www.chaos-dwarfs.com :
Hey Grimstonefire, you've won yourself a Manticore... pardon me, a Lamassu! At Raging Heroes, we have this policy that anyone can submit miniature ideas. And if it is one we had not thought of, than the person automatically receives the miniature for free once it comes out!
Congratulations, Grimstonefire!

I've linked to this at least three times in this thread but...
I have Syl-Iriah Heroic version. The difference between their first sculpts is night and day, she looks indistinguishable the finalized 3d renders. You can see for yourself in the pictures on the page; those are live metal products, not just the renders.
Kroothawk wrote:I just don't see how the suggested rider fits in: Much too bulky for a Dark Elf, body and all heads are perfect for a Chaos Warrior, not a slender elf.
If you go over to Kahn Urkan Heroic Version, you can see the Dark Elf version of the standing miniature. The lighter Dark Elf shoulders make a huge difference in the perception of the mini's bulkiness and looks much more lithe than the larger pauldrons of the Vampire/Beast head. Besides, Malekith is S5 T4, so it's not really unheard of even fluff/gamewise for Dark Elves to not be toothpicks. Combined with the massive nature of the Manticore, I think he'll look just fine with the rest of the army.

it's very late here in France, so we'll take some time to answer questions tomorrow.
Just a quick one though, regarding the size of the model: it is currently planned to be printed with the square base measuring 3,3cm.
I'm loving the Manticore. It's a gorgeous piece, but my one complaint?
The little "fins" on the forelegs look horribly out of place.

Whatever the horned head, this warrior with the Schwarzenegger body will always fit a Chaos Warrior army, but Schwarzenegger will never be a Legolas. I will have to get another rider for my Dark Elf Manticore then, male or female.

We did it! Well, contributed to it at least. Raging Heroes noted on their Manticore post that they are aiming at Christmas time availability! They also note very clearly that while this is their aim, it is not a release date to hold them to. This beauty will be well worth the wait either way, nut my fingers are crossed for production to go smoothly!

nice but the actual body (rather than wing height) could do with being larger for a centre-piece model.

I really am hoping it's just that they're removing the weird pseudo-wings on the forelegs.
The wings themselves are great. They add character to a vicious creature. This isn't a griffon or an eagle.
Manticores are, in almost every mythos/world I can think of, nasty beasts that kill things for fun.
A set of tattered/nontattered wings would be kinda cool though I guess.

I doubt RH will do separate sets of tattered/non-tattered as it wouldn't be efficient, but their resin and white metal are plenty sturdy to do your own customization with a couple drill bits and rounded files. Those of us who love the model as-is will likely love it just as much with the modified wings. Those of us liking everything but the wings will have one less reason not to buy this thing once they release the modified previews.

My thoughts exactly . Also, it's probably easier to distress the wings than the patch them up, so having them come a bit more "whole" will, imho, make it suitable for more people.
Shooting for around Christmas, or even early in the new year is Awesome!! Will set aside room for a chaos lord/hero on manticore in my larger list now

Thank you again for all your thoughtful comments, which deserve some feedback:
- Regarding the wings, we liked the torn and gnarled look but the many comments on this forum and on our blog have made us reconsider that and we are currently reworking the wings texture to that effect.
- The idea for the claws on the wings came from our brilliant concept artist Ignatius, who pushed the scorpion theme to the end. If you look carefully the creature's back, you'll see that insectoid legs stem from the scales and hold tight to the lion's rib cage and so, the claws on the tip of the wings are like the pincers of a scorpion. It's as if we scorpion was wrapped around a lion and had fused with it. We particularly liked this idea and went with it. As for the head, as a Manticore is supposed to have a lion's mane but a human face with a rather demonic aspect, this is the direction we took.
- On our images, the tail seems in a rather stiff position, this is mainly for moulding purposes. Depending on the material in which the Manticore will be produced (metal or resin), we'll give it more swing. You'll see it in the definitive renders we will post before sending it to the foundry.
- Some have noticed that the beast's claws should be more closed on its base. Good point, but in fact, that's because we're not quite done with the base yet. We are working on making it lighter and so the posing of the paws and claws will be done afterwards.
- There has been many discussions regarding the possible rider for the Manticore. Everybody seems to have their own wants on this one, which we quite understand. Therefore, we think we might find a good alternative by offering a pair of legs in armour (probably Kahn-Urkan's), which allows you to add the torso of your choice: a heavier one for a Chaos warrior, a lighter one for a Dark Elf, or even to discard the legs completely to use the Manticore in a transformation spell.
- As perhaps mentioned before, some have seen a possible Lamassu conversion with this Manticore, and so we are sculpting an alternate head to meet that need.
- We are frantically working to finish the sculpt by the end of the week and get it to you by Christmas.

Great stuff, it's always simpler to distress items than make them whole.

The wing claws are great, they are the one part of the wing detail that I loved. The tail is ok as it is relatively easy to gently manipulate metal/resin into a more dynamic pose, and I agree that casting a too dynamic tail can be a nightmare of extra cuts and pieces. The current face and body are spot on from my point of view, they are what drew me to the mini in the first place.
- On our images, the tail seems in a rather stiff position, this is mainly for moulding purposes. Depending on the material in which the Manticore will be produced (metal or resin), we'll give it more swing. You'll see it in the definitive renders we will post before sending it to the foundry.
For practical, and personal reasons I would prefer resin as it is much easier than metal to work with. It does mean that customers will have to learn the techniques to deal with resin effectively a la FW products.
- Some have noticed that the beast's claws should be more closed on its base. Good point, but in fact, that's because we're not quite done with the base yet. We are working on making it lighter and so the posing of the paws and claws will be done afterwards.

At this moment there has not been an announcement of a preorder date, but they have said they're going to try to have this thing out the doors by the end of the year. I would guess they will hold off on actual pre-orders until certain things are finalized like a finished sculpt, what needs to be done to have it out by end of year, final pricing based on quotes from their foundry, etc. While we all (except Orlanth) can't wait for this to be on our table, I'm sure none of us want it rushed.
Hold onto your money Fafnir, and in the mean time be ecstatic that the model has made its way from "Who would buy it?" to "It's coming!"
