Somehow I overlooked the fact that WoC can take a manticore as a mount. And I just started a WoC army .

So change my feedback from "That's awesome- wish I played an army that could take it" to "That's awesome- I will definitely get one if it is produced!"

Also, there's the lore of beasts spell (Transformation of Kadon?) that can turn any wizard into a manticore- if someone who doesn't play DE or WoC is looking for an excuse to get one . It looks crazy enough that you could probably use it for any of those lore of beasts transformation options, too!

Edit: Also, the hero that is included with it has enough different head options to work for DE or WoC, imho. Awesome!

Well, looking at the current Manticore model, who wouldn't overlook it? Honestly, it's what has kept a Manticore out of my Dark Elf army.

RiTides wrote:Edit: Also, the hero that is included with it has enough different head options to work for DE or WoC, imho. Awesome!

Right now it looks like RH was only intending to include the Dark Elf version of the hero character, but that may change if enough people clamor for the Chaos version to be offered as well. Either way, it wouldn't be terribly difficult to convert your favored character model to sit on the beast; just give him a new head!

I totally forgot about the Vampires! Seems like in that case it may behoove RH to include that vampiric head/shoulders with the rider as well, or at least as an option on checkout. I know most fantasy vampires are pictured as slender, graceful humanoids but seeing a huge, really angry one would certainly intimidate me, especially riding in on that thing!

Yes, it would be awesome if you could select the loadout of the rider at checkout. Or, up the fee by (5 euros?) and just include all the options. Would open it up to the WoC and VC players who might be interested, rather than just DE.

I suggest that because the price looks low compared to their other offerings, but it would open it up to appeal to a wider audience (such as myself ).

I do see myself getting it either way, but I'd be bummed to only have the dark elf rider's head :-/

Not so sure about a 5 euro boost, that's another $7 for head and shoulder bits. We're already looking at $56 + shipping, kicking it up to $63 for that is painful. :(

True... so maybe the option to pick what head you want could be available at checkout?

Or just include them to make me happy (a large motivator, I am sure!).

If they didn't come with the kit, I might try to find someone who had purchased the figure without the manticore to trade for their head bits

Sorry not to quote everyone properly, trying to reply fast :-)

First, here is a pic that will help you to judge the size of the miniature. (tip: open the pic in your favorite image editor, take a ruler and zoom in/out so that the ruler in the pic match the size of your physical ruler)

"I can't believe they could price that at 40 euros!! Syl-Iriah is almost as much for just a small model (or more for the legendary version)."

Well, we are trying to stick to this price, it's a real challenge. We will certainly need to make the base elements (rocks and tree trunk) thinner for exemple. In the end, it might be a few euros more but not too much.
Just to clarify things, the price of Syl-Iriah is 46,90 € for the Legendary version and 22,90 € for the Heroic version.

"Also, the hero that is included with it has enough different head options to work for DE or WoC, imho. Awesome! "

Once again it's only a cost/price consideration. For now we intend to do a version of Kahn-Urkan that is only made of one or two parts. What is certain is that tere won't be any alternate weapons. However, all the comments are making us consider adding one or two alternate head!
Another option would be to bundle additional accessories and heads together as a bits kit that could be purchased separately.

"Like everyone else, I'm not a fan of the wings."

Apparently, what some of you don't like is the texture of the membrane. Is this correct?
We wanted to do soemting wth a bit more texture than the usual bat wings that tend to look a bit bland in our opinion. We also wanted something very chaotic-looking and that would help make the creature meaner and somewhat strange/unnatural.
We'll see if we can find a different way to express this...

"Raging Heroes is known for providing kits with alternate parts. Would there be a possibility of a Manticore with 'folded' wings?"

Wings are some of the most expensive elements to produce because they take a very large space in the mould and need a lot of metal. Of course, folded wings would not be as large but nevertheless, adding them would definitely and significantly impact the price, unfortunately.

"Well, their recently released Syl-Iriah looks every bit as amazing as the renders, so I have high hopes for this one "

Honestly, with the new 3D-printing technology that we use, there is virtually no difference between the 3D render and the actual cast model.
FYI, they don't really publicize this but GW and PP are increseangly using the same 3D printing technology as we do and nobody ever noticed...

"do we know what material it is planned to be made of? "

We're still studying that: white metal, resin, or a combination of both. It does come down to cost on this.

On a final note, some strange short people with leang beards and very big hats have been thinking abut converting it into a lamasu. This was something we hadn't thought of... We might offer an alternate head that could be purchased separately.

It is definatly good news that the options are being considered, I have high hopes for this kit and would personally prefer resin. Keep up the good work and could someone post a pic of the rider as I can't get on the site currently.

Head swaps for the different races should be relatively easy for the rider, as well as being able to sub the wings if people aren't fussed. I'm not keen on the tatty nature of the wings, but would still buy one because the main portion of the mini works for me.

I look forward to seeing this in the shop

An included alternate head or two, or a bits kit to purchase separately would both work for me . Neat to see you guys reading/responding to the feedback! Also, using this for a chaos dwarves mount is pure genius!

Good timing for that, too, since a lot of people might start chaos dwarf projects with all of the things FW seems to be planning on making for them next year!

I am glad I read this thread now as I did not even know your company existed before doing so. I am truly impressed with the level of detail you have placed in your models. Although I no longer play fantasy (simply do not have the time for 40k and fantasy games, so I made that choice), I will become a customer for other reasons. This piece in particular is fantastic and I will be getting one regardless of how it turns out just because there is no better piece out there by anyone. I also fall in the category of people that do not like the wings as is, but my suggestion is simple. It is the holes that look like battle damage, they are what are turning me off. But like I said before, it will not keep me from getting the model. Perhaps, different sets of wings as options is a solution? Obviously, they can not be made interchangeable without significant aftermarket work, but some of us might get the extra bodies for the different poses that can be made. I also have one other suggestion. A Chimera head would fit very nicely onto that model as is with nothing more than changing the end of the tail. Just a suggestion...

Now that's just gorgeous. I love the bulk, and the face is amazing. Bestial but intelligent. Thanks for posting this MeanGreen!

I also have concerns about the wing membrane. The wings look like they're from an undead beast, while the rest of the model is robust and heavy. If this was an undead creature I wouldn't be bothered by the torn wings, but for this, they just seem too damaged to be functional.

But yes, I would absolutely buy one.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me the wings are too damaged. Texture is fine, but these look like they come from an undead creature. The membrane doesn't seem to be attached to the center bone, except at a few points where it "lumps" over the bone. It's almost like a flag attached to a pole at a few points, rather than a membrane stratched over a frame.

Does that make it clearer? Again, it's a beautiful model, just the wings should be as healthy and robust as the rest of the model.

Really great.
I will definitely buy one for my Dark Elves.
Ideally (IMHO) the nose could have been a bit longer - and the wings less necrotic.

Also I think it would be a mistake to include the mentioned rider by default - as it is much harder to make the rider fit into the theme/race of potential buyers armies.
I cannot imagine the rider among my DE for instance as it is way to muscular for an elf.

This said, I will buy the Manticore regardless. Even if it comes with a €120 price tag...

Some please mail or PM me when it is released.

It seems you are aware of our discussions on chaos dwarfs online about this .

This model is the closest by far to any model I am aware of that would be useable as a lamassu. Not only that, but this one kicks ass!

So I think you should definitely consider an alternate head.

You quoted their entire post just to add that?

And aside from the current Sorceress/general model Syl-Iriah, according to their "Coming Soon..." list it looks like RH is working on some new Treemen units. It wouldn't surprise me if they're blessing us with a nice alternative to current Treekin minis.

I saw you mention in another thread that the ETA for this manticore model could be as soon as Christmas? That would be incredible... but I'd take early next year, too

More like guessed if they do go through with this (fingers crossed), it could be possible. According to their blog pages, once they got kinks worked out with Syl-Iriah, she seemed to go relatively smoothly into the production phase without too much fuss. Though now that we're teetering on the 2-month mark to Christmas I'm not really sure my guess was fair, but it would make for an awesome gift to myself any time of year!

After glancing over this particular thread, all but one person agrees that it's an awesome model with varying degrees of agreement with the wings and 10-12 people are demanding it be made so they can buy one, not including Alpharius who wants a Lammasu head first. Another 9 (which may include duplicates) left comments on the RH blog page wanting to buy it.

I wonder how much feedback we need to give this thing a green light... I know I'm going to show it off next gaming night to the other players, hopefully drag a few more into the collective of Manticore buyers.

Sounds great! The more momentum, the better... although looking at the fact that Raging Heroes is reading this, it's possible there will be a few edits made to the design before they go forward with it. Although, just taking out the "holes" in the wings seems like it will satisfy most of the feedback in this thread
