I know saying this doesn't make me a real nerd anymore, but I'd rather see an americanized version of Akira than the borefest that was the original. I just can't stand the really bad acting they use for dubbed voices (for all anime actually), and I don't want to read subtitles for 2 hours either.

I’ve really got no problem with adaptations, plenty of them are perfectly acceptable, and some are even superior to the original.* I’ve also got no problem with young stars taking roles in movies like this - fanboys freak out whenever a celebrity is mentioned in relation to their favourite properties, they seem to consider celebrity and acting ability mutually exclusive for some reason or another. I’ve only seen Zac Effron in Me and Orson Welles, but he was pretty good in that, certainly good enough to yell ‘Kanada’ over and over again.
But I can’t for the life of me figure out how you can make Akira mean anything outside of 1980s Japan. In order to make it give it resonance you’d have to change so much you’d be looking at a totally new story.
... .
It doesn't need resonance. It just needs to pull in a teen crowd with a combination of special effects and the right "stars".

So what you're saying is you want to learn Japanese?

IMO The VHS release has much better dubbing than the current DVD version.
Especially the following pieces of dialogue:
'Hey Damnit!'.
'C'mon'.
'Its too much for a kid like you'.
'I can ride it'.
'sure, sure, maybe when you down your first clown'.
'But Colonel....'
'Do it naaaaoow'
'Testsuooooooo!'
'Kanedaaaaaaaaa!'

That was seriously, the whole movie in a few short quotes lol
Except maybe a KACHEW! at the end

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I guess I forgot:
'weird babble about bacteria and amoebas being able or not able to kill or having the power of life and death..and such..sort of..I dunno.. what?'
'you mean he has that much power!'
'er...yes!'
Ghost in the shell, as it is now, is very good. That means that the chances of this film improving on it are significantly less than the chances of it getting worse.
Still, I'll bludgeon to death anyone who gets in my way to seeing it.

And are you ready talking bike?
I would see this if they did it that way.
(God I hope they don't do it that way)
As iffy as I am about Keanu doing Spike in Cowboy Bebop, I can only hope that he can channel his inner Ted, combine it with Neo, and make an awesome performance.
