I changed my profile picture. Does it do anything? No. Is it fun? Yes. Does it raise awareness? Hell yes. As was said earlier someone is going to ask 'lol, why is your pf pic a cartoon? lol' and you can reply. That does raise awareness.
It's what little I can do to help the problem, as a college student still living off of my parents, I don't have any money I can call my own to give away. So, I help the way I can....I mean, it's not hurting anyone is it? And it has the tinies possibility that it might even HELP in the end. There's no downside, and there's a potential upside...that was my logic for doing it.

As was said earlier someone is going to ask 'lol, why is your pf pic a cartoon? lol' and you can reply. That does raise awareness.
This is assuming that people notice and do ask you and that your friends list hasn't already done it anyway.
Barely anyone speaks to me on FB (or IRL for that matter) and basically everyone on my friends list has changed their picture; is it still worth me doing it? No, it isn't. I am already aware, as are my listed friends, nobody remains to be made aware by my picture being changed.

That may well be the case for you, but it's not the case for me. Besides, even then, I found it fun just to see what all my friends viewed as 'nostalgic'.
Besides, I'm not saying everyone HAS to do it, I'm explaining why I personally did it. My logic doesn't necessarily apply to you.

I'm not against raising awareness. I think it's good for people to know things. I just know that none of my FB friends are below the age of, like, 25, so I'm not worreid about any of them being abused.
It's fun and harmless, but part of me is worried that doing stuff like this makes people think they've done something, when while not completely without value, it's a pretty minor thing.
Write a letter to a legislator, give some money, donate some time, or hell, just talk about some stuff. I'd rather see any of that than just a bunch of people in the their 20's and 30's "raising awareness" amongst each other that child abuse is bad.
I did have to laugh at the kid earlier this thread who pointed out that as a student, he didn't have a lot of time. I feel like assuring him that once he leaves the cripplingly stressful halls of academia, full time work and having a family leave ample time for recreation and philanthropy.
