I'm wondering what would be the end result.
NK nukes SK.
What then? Would America retaliate? Would China intervene?

China still needs North Korea, it is a buffer zone for Communism (their version atleast) against the incursion of an American style government. Historically Korea has been a key route for troop movement in Asia and has provided victory to people like genghis khan and other large asian generals who moved armies through korea to Japan and vis-versa.

Lol, no. It's a military buffer zone between American bases an the chinese mainland, but at this point china just wants the north to go away without flooding tens of millions of refugees over it's northern border.

I don't think horsepaths are really the defining characteristic of military topography any more.

In the end, China is far more globally connected than North Korea. If they go to war with America, both of our economies get royally wrecked and other countries are likely to impose sanctions upon the PRC. They would be forced to cut losses and leave the PRK high and dry. The UN would have to form a coalition to deal with the North Korean situation, as this move would label the PRK a threat to global stability. The US might be forced to reduce our presence in Iraq and Afghanistan in order to deal with the situation, and as such we may find ourselves stretched pretty thin.

North Korea really isn't going to last much longer. South Korea and the US have already discussed whats going to happen to South Korea's economy when the North Pours into the south.
If China really wants to intervene, good for them. They are very reliant on other western countries to purchase their goods. Sure they got more people, but the US, and NATO for that matter, has better technology, training and weapons then China. By a lot. The only scary player here is Russia, as nobody knows that they are really going to do. They could back either side and still be okay. Putin has tricks up his sleeve. But to see how North Korea dies, wait for Kim-Jong-Il to kick the bucket. Then watch the fireworks.

Now that US war declarations have been officially defined as 'resolutions' (thanks Frazz ) I'm really rather not looking forward to the new year after all.
