Look at Vietnam and the current conflict. Both could have been won quickly.

Edit: Would the North won if Sherman hadn't decided to open up a can of rape? Would America have defeated Japan without fire bombing and dropping the nukes?

The civil war was won through out producing the south. Japan would have been crushed by the combined might of russia and the U.S.

Vietnam could have been won if we went in with overwhelming force, shock and awe. Hit the north Vietnamese hard and fast, no need to be ruthless. Afghanistan and Iraq really can't be 'won' as the soviets showed us quite plainly.

Nam was actually won. We did what we went in to do(or so I have read). But it wasn't with shock and Awe. It was an ugly war. But I agree. Afghanistan is a tar pit. The Soviets showed us that. And Iraq should have fallen in the 90s under competent Bush.

So National Debt is like Goldilocks and the three bears. Too little and you look stupid, too much and you look stupid, but the happy medium is where you want to be. Thanks, I learned something today.

Dogma, thanks for the explanation. So having a lot of national debt is kind of a good thing then?

A lot, no, but some yes. There's no question that the US national debt is precipitously high.

we went there to prevent the north form conquering the south. The north conquered the south, we lost. We lost because we hadn't the faintest idea how to fight asymmetric warfare, and the viet nim would've made sun ztu proud

lmao, I can't believe they fell for that.

But Kermit thinks that I'm so ignorant that I think WW2 and Nam too place in the 20s...

We lost Vietnam. It was a rare case of dominating the battlefield and losing the war. Sadly, I don't think we learned much from it. I think a lot of brass are telling themselves we won it, but that the media gave it away.

War isn't just about military might. If there's no support for it, you can never win it. Just like the current situation.

Yes and yes. You don't actually know all that much about military history, do you?
