I would think that the difficulty in finding a positively portrayed muslim character, or a character of any religion really, is that if the makers of the film have emphasized a character's religion, it is because that character represents a religion, or an aspect of a religion that they wish to criticize, and they use the character to this end. That's just a thought though, I could be wrong.

That's just a thought though, I could be wrong.
In a lot of instances you would be correct (I think it would be a much longer thread anyway... or a very short one), but as I hope we're demonstrating negative portrayals are not always the case.

French cinema has tons of examples. They also tend to have a lot more muslim actors than hollywood.

The main character in the film Shoot on sight,Tariq Ali. A muslin police officer who works against terrorists shortly after the 7th july bombing. He's up against a lot of discrimination and has to make some hard choices. Of all the films i've seen this portrays muslims in the most positive way.
